Montana Senate GOP leaders call out `dissident’ Republican senators in sworn statement

Anyone who follows Montana politics knows that moderate Republicans teamed up with Democrats to pass some of the biggest bills at the 2015 Legislature.

But in a sworn statement filed with a lawsuit in federal court, Senate Republican Majority Leader Matt Rosendale says those same moderate Republicans also “repeatedly threatened” to remove conservative Senate GOP leadership if the moderates didn’t get key spots on committees.

“When the dissident Republican senators made these threats, we had to accede to their demands because we could not risk having our leadership decapitated and having Democrats and the dissident Republicans controlling the day-to-day agenda of the Senate,” he said.

Rosendale also singled out Sen. Llew Jones of Conrad as the leader of the “dissidents,” and who threatened to team up with Democrats to remove GOP leadership.

“I was just stating what actually happened,” Rosendale said in an interview Thursday with MTN News. “(Jones) made those remarks to me after the leadership was elected and he reiterated those same remarks when (we) were getting ready to put together the interim committees.”

Rosendale’s written statement is part of a lawsuit filed by the state Republican Party to end Montana’s open primary system, and create a “closed” primary that allows only registered Republicans to vote in primary elections choosing GOP candidates.

Jones, often seen as a leader of a moderate bloc of Republicans in the state Senate, told MTN News that “threaten” is “an interesting word,” and that he doesn’t consider what he said to be a threat.

--yep--after we Nevadans elected the first Repub legislature in thirty some years, at the beginning of the first session, several of the RINO's threatened to caucus with the Dems if they didn't get "their" way.

--some arm twhwisting and recall petitions filed brought them back into the fold, sort of----

Maybe they should try to make them sign a loyalty pledge.

Exactly Texas situation. Speaker Straus worked with Dems to oust the conservative. He rewarded chairmanships to moderates and Dems. His cronies are falling in elections and it is hard to swallow that he hasn’t been ousted yet. Every seedy thing, UT scandal for one, has his fingerprints.

Yep. Old Joe loves to run with the rats. He is a scourge to Texas.

I can’t think of one positive from having open primaries - why have them?

So if I’m reading this right, it’s not just the lobbistists that are paying for favors, it’s ‘committee’ highest seats that our unlawful spineless sissies are buying and biding for?

Very interesting, I’m going to do some research this morning and find out what committees, who is the head of them, who is backing them, and how much money they are making....

If I find out what I think I’m going to find out, I will list it on FR and also send a copy to Hatch, Lee, Love, and the other one....course don’t expect anything out of Hatch....

The only Republican to support Right to Work legislation in Montana was the sponsor of the bill...Sad commentary on a western state.

“Moderate”, meaning “liberal/progressive”, Republicans have long been a problem in Montana politics. Jones and his posse seem to be merely liberal/progessive word-weasels self-adorned as “Republicans” to get elected. Don’t know them personally, and don’t plan on getting too close, either. I believe they are timber-rattlers masquerading as garden snakes; ‘snakes’ being the operative word.

They are a way to game the so called two party system.

They clearly illustrate the moronic brain activity level of the average voter. A "two party" system that allows, nay encourages, a party to allow their opponents to choose their candidate.

The fact that the parties themselves approve of this should tell us what their real intentions are.

It’s the same situation in Wyoming. Even there most of the “republicans” are RINOs. I know this for a fact because I know one of them personally and he openly says he’s a RINO and that he hates the Tea Party.

Educate the voters waaaaay before the primaries and run a solid conservative with a factual record of what they have done..... not promising what they will do......RINO season across the country, no limit.

Also write and email your presstitutes handlers and tell em why you no longer watch their programming nor read their biased agenda BS as all we seek are facts so we can educate the voters, not dumb em down......

Activist agenda driven script read by a fake blonde in a short skirt on TV wearing enough makeup to force avon to market a putty knife is not news.....

My opinion.... stay safe !!

All that plus ground game, knocking on doors.

Was at local county senior center visiting with friend. Told me of a scam last general, dem activists visiting senior care facilities offering assistance with voter registration and absentee ballots which they offered to fill out. Guess what happened? BOLO with your elders. (LMAO, me saying that, I’m a certified geezer with an attitude)
