Mr. Trump said he is not selling," said Jack Nusbaum, a lawyer for Trump.

But Griffin is undeterred: On Tuesday, he raised the ante for Resorts to $295 million and said the six directors of Resorts - only half of whom are independent of Trump - could decide how to divvy up the money among investors.

... Financial experts say the latest offer from Griffin is so shrewdly constructed that the board's rejection of it is bound to draw legal fire. Trump's own offer to buy Resorts, as a result, could be seriously delayed in court. ...

"This is bigger than the Spinks-Tyson fight," said Michael King, president of King World, a New Jersey distributor of television shows, including Griffin's Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! game shows.

"You have two undefeated champs going into the ring. Both are very bright, very aggressive businessmen. This is going to be fun to watch," said King, who said he also knows Trump. ...

Trump has sued Griffin; Griffin has sued Trump.

...

"What Griffin is trying to do is out-trump Trump," said analyst Roffman. ''This is absolutely, very, very serious for Donald Trump."

... Trump was drawn to Resorts by Crosby's unfinished dream: the Taj Mahal casino, which was to be the nation's biggest casino. But along with the dream, the developer inherited the inflated costs of the project.

Originally, the Taj Mahal was to have cost $185 million; the latest estimate is more than $900 million.

To protect himself from the risks of the project, Trump worked out a lucrative "service" agreement with Resorts. ...

Last year, Griffin lost out to the sultan of Brunei in a bid to buy the fabled Beverly Hills Hotel. Without losing a beat, he turned around and bought the Beverly Hills Hilton for about $200 million....

Yep...Griffin paid 28 million above the (then) current appraisal for the BHHilton. Not too swift.

Merv picks a great time to go after a guy, who just may wind up to be the next Ronald Reagan.

Merv was friends with Reagan. He should know better.

I KNOW Trump got the better deal because he’s alive and well and running for President, while Merv Griffin died 8 years ago. And not saying anything negative about Merv, who was reportedly a very nice man.

Griffin was accused of sexual harassment, and refused to answer questions about his gender preference, Griffin told The New York Times on May 26, 2005 a bit more than 2 years before his death, “I tell everybody that I’m a quarter-sexual. I will do anything with anybody for a quarter.”
