Of the 12,996 homicides in the United States in 2011, just 21 were in Idaho, 21 in Montana, and 8 in Wyoming.

That's odd: in 2011, we went to unlicensed concealed or open handgun carry in Wyoming, and had 15 murders, 11 with firearms, [included 2 crossbow murders] 7 of which were with handguns.

2011 is the last year for which we've had data. But the state population is around a half million; I'd think a major city- say Chicago, or Philadelphia- of a half million with only 15 murders/homicides a year would be bragging about it. Heck, fifteen a week is pretty routine for Chicago.

4.2 gun deaths PER CAPITA??? So that means that every person living in NY shot and killed 4.2 people?

Nah. It means every New Yayker ha been murdered 4.2 times.
