One policeman has been killed and about 100 more injured outside Ukraine's parliament, after MPs gave initial backing to reforms for more autonomy in the rebel-held east, officials say.

National guardsmen were pelted with fire crackers and petrol bombs and an explosion was heard in the crowd.

MPs had just voted in a rowdy session to approve more powers in areas of Donetsk and Luhansk under control of pro-Russian rebels.

A missile was hurled from the crowd of demonstrators, many of whom were carrying banners supporting ultra-nationalist Svoboda (Freedom) party.

A loud explosion rang out and an AFP reporter described seeing several people covered in blood.

One policeman's leg was torn off below the knee, Interfax Ukraine reported.

Journalists who had been covering the developments were also among the wounded.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said some 30 people had been detained and more would follow. He bitterly criticised Svoboda leader Oleh Tyahnybok, writing on Facebook that several explosive devices had been thrown by people wearing Svoboda T-shirts.

Just breaking, happened about 3 hours ago.

At least one policeman dead after Svoboda and the Nazi's tried to storm the parliament this morning, after the Parliament finally decided to consider granting the autonomy to the Rebel regions that they agreed to do in the Minsk Agreement.

Sounds like Vlad's winning...both militarily *and* diplomatically.”Governor Romney, the 1980’s are calling. They want their foreign policy back” has proven to be just another “peace in our time”.

Numerous Media sources on Twitter saying between 90-100 Injured, many severely.

Looks like Ukraine’s Second Civil War could be kicking off.

YouTube videos of the grenade going off in the middle of the police cordon:

Best angle, the grenade goes off at about 1:15:

Looks more like the 60s are calling and we are letting eastern Europe fall with barely a word... Again.

68 wasn’t exactly a banner year for foreign policy.

Kiev seems to be blaming Oleh Tyahnybok, the leader of the Svoboda (Freedom) party, who is directly supported by the Obama Administration and the State Department.

He was leading the protest, and was standing very close to where the Grenade was thrown from.

Are they going to blame Putin’s agents for the grenade attack? I think this kind of proves that the nationalist gangs probably shot at the Kiev protestors and the police the first time around.

“I think this kind of proves that the nationalist gangs probably shot at the Kiev protestors and the police the first time around.”

IMHO, the Maidan shooters were probably led by Right Sector’s Oleksandr Muzychko, a.k.a. Sashko Bilyi, a Chechen War Criminal. Conveniently, he was killed by Arson Avakov’s police, just as the Russians began to demand that he be questioned about the shootings.

Of course, there are ALL kinds of theories about who he shooters were, but that is who I think did it.

“MPs had just voted in a rowdy session to approve more powers in areas of Donetsk and Luhansk under control of pro-Russian rebels.”

Thousands and lives could have been sparred if they just did that in the first place.

Ever notice nobody has ever been arrested for those original Euromaidan shootings. They were probably part of this crowd.

No, I don’t think so.

The way the government was overthrown, even with snap elections offered, an the inane Anti-Russian Death Rhetoric that immediately followed it, pretty much assured it was going to end in a Civil War with the Ethnic Russians in Ukraine.

And it’s not over, yet.
We’re seeing more and more problems coming from the Western Hungarians. Hungary would love to get Carpathian Ruthenia back.

The issue is the regions having veto powers over foreign policy issues. The USA/EU won’t go for that because of obvious reasons. They rather have a bloody Ukraine that is as is than have a neutral Ukraine not in the EU or NATO.

UPDATE from TASS:

“Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has accused the Svoboda (Freedom) party and its leader Oleg Tyagnibok of organizing the riots near the Verkhovna Rada building on Monday, which have left more than 100 people injured.

“I accuse Tyagnibok and Svoboda. This is a crime, not a political action,” Avakov said. “Tagnyabok has brought not the protesters. He brought the bandits who killed and maimed our soldiers.””
