Violent maximum security prisoner refuses... protocol... Muslim... allowed to get away with it

Prison officers are refusing to deal with a Supermax prisoner after he was allowed to bend the strict rule of kneeling before any officers enter their cell.

Milad Bin Ahmad-Shah al-Ahmadzai was told he could sit instead of kneel like all other maximum security prisoners which has incensed the officers who have since been instructed by the union not to move al-Ahmadzai unless he kneels,The Daily Telegraph reported.

Meanwhile, commissioned officers have been brought into Goulburn prison to deal with the Muslim prisoner who is insisting on special treatment on the grounds of his religious beliefs.

Corrective Services NSW told the News Corp paper that the incident occurred when the prisoner was about to be moved to meet with his lawyer.

Instead, the 25-year-old was required to sit cross-legged on the floor with his handcuffed hands on his head and his fingers interlocked.

Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin insisted that al-Ahmadzai was not given any leniency because the exception of sitting was in fact tougher than the rule of kneeling.

'The procedure was tested and found to be at least as safe for staff as the usual method of making an inmate kneel,' he said.

'We do not allow inmates to dictate anything affecting the security of our prisons.'

Full headline: Violent maximum security prisoner refuses to follow strict prison protocol and kneel for guards 'because of his Muslim faith' - and is being allowed to get away with it

To be clear this is an article about events in Australia.

I like the Daily Mail but their headline writers make things tough to get things into the 100 character limit here.

I actually do think the cross legged position is tougher than the kneeling position - but that really isn't the point. This creates a precedent for other claims to be made that could undermine security.

Then I guess he just doesn't get to meet with his lawyer. Let him sit there for the rest of his life.

Nah, let him sit.

Just make sure he sees the guards dipping their gloves into bacon lard before they pick him up.
