Walker: ‘Not Taking a Position’ on Birthright Citizenship, Need to Talk Border Security First

Wisconsin Governor and Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker said he’s “not taking a position…one way or the other” on birthright citizenship, and all other issues pertaining to immigration can’t be addressed “until you actually secure the borders and enforce the laws” in an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood released on Friday.

Walker was asked about his support for ending birthright citizenship. He stated, “When it comes to birthright, or anything else, I said until you…actually secure the border, and start enforcing the laws, any politician who talks about anything else beyond that, the American people should be suspect, because we’ve talked for 25 years about those things. I’ve actually talked about doing it.”

Walker was asked about his position on a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, he maintained that “in both of those instances,” “I don’t think any of those issues can be addressed until you actually secure the borders and enforce the laws.”

This is probably the smart tact on this issue at this time. There's just too much disinformation in the media to counter the current consensus.

Myths about birthright citizenship—promoted by liberals, embraced by establishment Republicans, and repeated by mainstream media pundits without critical examination—have been debunked by experts spanning the political spectrum. But none of those people are being given A-list treatment by major media outlets to respond.

Instead, the voices given the biggest public platforms are commentators who lack any professional credentials on the topic, who breezily assure viewers that “of course everyone knows” that the Fourteenth Amendment confers citizenship on everyone born in this country. And when the media occasionally puts on an opposition guest to provide a veneer of balanced reporting, they put on well-meaning individuals who are clearly not well grounded on this issue, who cannot make a compelling case and can’t answer hard questions.

But there are a plethora of legal experts who can field those questions. The Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause declares: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Breitbart News first explained that the debate of who becomes an American citizen by virtue of being born on U.S. soil turns on the words “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” And we later explained in greater detail how the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Citizenship Clause over time supports the original meaning of that clause, a clause which does not extend citizenship to the children of illegal aliens.

I’m not talking about what’s right, I’m talking about what’s smart NOW. Scott Walker has countered many sacred cows in Wisconsin and I can easily see this as one he would attack at president.

Wrong. This is ignoring 300,000 anchor babies naturalized EVERY year.
Those 300,000 grow up to have many more naturalized babies.

Ignoring the issue won’t make it go away.

Walker has many positive characteristics, but just copping out like this is not the way to go. Notice how Trump has set the agenda, people talk about things because he talks about them. That’s how to manage it. So don’t fiddle around and say what your actual proposal is.

Walker can’t handle it. He can handle public unions but he can’t handle the national media.

He should turn back around and focus on Wisconsin. That state still has too many DANGEROUS hard-core leftists in the democrat party that need to be fumigated.

It’s the old story of two salesmen standing by a car. One can sell you the car, the other one can’t. What’s the difference? SALESMANSHIP! It comes down to trust wrapped in presentation and reputation. Trump can sell and deliver on really big things. Walker can’t.

Walker took this attitude in Wisconsin with the Kenosha casino deal. A tribe wanted to build a new casino in Kenosha, basically half way between Chicago and Milwaukee, and instead of saying yea or nay, Scott said the other tribes should come to a consensus on the matter, when, ultimately, it was Walker’s responsibility to hash out. But he just sat back. To his mind, it was the safest move to make, but it is not what the people of Wisconsin, even his avid supporters, wanted out of their chief executive. The other tribes, not wanting competition, of course, said NO! It cost our state a lot of jobs and development.

That kind of wishy washiness doesn’t work in a presidential election. That’s what your in the spotlight for, to take a stand one way or another. This election is completely over Scott’s head. He needs to drop out, shut up, and sort himself out before he’s irreparably damaged.
