To: Jakarta ex-pat

You’re avoiding the point. Yes soccer is the most popular sport in the world. But the soccer people follow will be their local soccer, not some other country’s soccer. Ask your nearest soccer fan who they think is going to win Ligue (French top league) 1 this year. If people in Jakarta can name more members of Ligue 1 than the NFL you’ll be right. But I guarantee they can’t, which is my point.

I very much enjoy our discussion. Unfortunately, I have to get to bed, but I promise to get back to you tomorrow. Let me leave you with this. Away from America, from Jakarta to China, South America to Asia To Africa to Europe, there are more shirts worn relevant to soccer than all American sports put together 500,000 times.
