PARIS — A gunman opened fire on a high-speed train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris Friday, wounding two people before being subdued by two American passengers, officials said.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, speaking in Arras in northern France where the suspected was detained, said one of the Americans was hospitalized with serious wounds. Their names were not immediately released.
Philippe Lorthiois, an official with the Alliance police union, said on i-Tele that the two Americans were soldiers.
In Washington, the Pentagon said it “can only confirm that one U.S. military member was injured in the incident. The injury is not life-threatening.”
Contrary to early reports, Lorthiois said the attacker did not fire his automatic weapon but wounded one man with a handgun and the other with a blade of some kind.
Investigators from France’s special anti-terror police are leading the investigation, a spokeswoman for the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
“As always where an act that could be terrorist in nature is involved, the greatest care and the greatest precision will be used,” Cazeneuve said.
The suspect is a 26-year-old Moroccan, according to Sliman Hamzi, an official with the police union Alliance, who spoke on French television i-Tele.

The news stories make me crazy. They ALWAYS say that they don’t know the ‘motive’ for the shooting. Can they be that stupid?

The militia in France. Some think the 2d amendment is about the right to carry. It is really about the fact that freedom can only be obtained and preserved if average people have the courage to take action. The gun, knife, fist or foot is only the tool. The key ingredient is the understanding that freedom and a civilized society is up to us.
Four planes were hijacked. Good people on 3 planes lacked the courage to be militia. Good people on the 4th plane had the courage to make the terrorists fail.
Terrorism will not be defeated by NSA spying, nor by putting a cop on every corner, nor by side agreements with promoters of terrorism.
Terrorism will only be defeated if the militia grows and gets some cajones. Of course, the militia also needs some brains and common sense. Don’t jump a guy just because he “looks like one”. (He’s probably a Sikh and on our side.)
Don’t jump a Mexican. I’ve known thousands of Mexicans (mostly illegals). I’ve known terrorists. I’ve never met a Mexican terrorist nor ever heard of one. (Those common criminals are not terrorists. Some of the media actively supports Islamic extremism, but most of it is still locked in that paternalistic post 9-11 mindset that if they characterize an incident as Islamic terrorism, all us yay-hoos out here in yay-hooland are going to go bonkers and run around blowing up mosques.

I agree with you general analyst, but you have to admit the 4th plane had knowledge from the outside (calls and texts) what was going to happen. That did play a part, there was probable good people on those other planes that given the same information would of acted.
It’s like “whistling past the graveyard”. These Mary Sunshines think that if they just pretend long enough (lie to themselves in other words) Islamic Terrorism will just disintegrate. Living in Realville is much more honest in the long run & it helps you make better decisions in life.
