Trump held 23.3 percent of votes compared to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's 16.5 percent and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's 11 percent

New poll results show that businessman Donald Trump has widened his lead over the other GOP presidential contenders in Illinois.

Victory Research, a political consulting firm, surveyed 801 "likely Republican primary voters" in Illinois from Aug. 16-18, and many of them chose Trump as their candidate.

Trump held 23.3 percent of votes compared to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's 16.5 percent and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's 11 percent.

Rounding out the top six in the poll are neurosurgeon Ben Carson (5.5 percent), Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (5 percent) and former Hewlett Packard executive Carly Fiorina (4.6 percent). Less than one-fifth of those surveyed (17.9 percent) said they were still undecided.

If the ever-lying, self-EXEMPT GOP wants ANY votes,
they must all take an Oath to
defend Trump and go after Obama.

Trump leads in every state and now he’s going to Alabama tonight to speak to 40,000 in a stadium. I’m thinking he leads in Alabama as well.

I think so as well. I'm in southern Georgia, and Cruz had very good turnout througout, including at paid venues.

But we couldn't come up with 20,000 or more in our dreams, at least not at this stage of the campaign. I am for Cruz, but Trump is motivating a LOT of people who are not ordinarily involved. Trump breaks ALL of the Dems models (and the Rovian/Romney models) for who votes how.

I am for Cruz, but I would love for Trump to replace the CoCers and the free-trade-with-our-enemies types with a lot of decent people who are politically jaded.

That is despite the fact that I view Trump as a crony capitalist extraordinaire. But then again, he is a teetotaler who came out with his own line of vodka.

FWIW, according to a survey that came out yesterday, Kasich leads in OH, but has just about zero support in adjacent states.

True, but Kasich only leads by 6 points. I think it was 27-21.

You're right. It was 27-21. I suspect it doesn't mean much if they polled a group of "active Republicans" or something like that. The party elite in OH run their own show. It's why OH doesn't get Republicans in state and national office and even all judge nominations that represent anything but elite big donor values.

Around here anyway, a lot of people really despise that Kasich has starved local budgets. I suspect that when the primary comes around, a lot of apathetic voters will show up to lodge a mad-as-hell protest vote.

Illinois has Republicans?

Outside of Chicago there are quite a few. Hell, we just elected a Republican governor, a very savvy businessman who had never held political office. If you discount Chicago, Illinois is a red state. Just look up the county-by-county results of the 2012 election, and the state is almost a solid red.
