Having watched him for a time in Denver, he is genuinely a good person and seemed to be a good teammate. I liked having him on the team. I just wish he had a better passing game. :-((
Tebow is genuine, a rare commodity anywhere these days. And he has a very big heart for football and for people. I hope he succeeds hugely! It would be great for football to have him as a star player!
i’m a Broncos fan. i debated every single day with the horde of Tebow haters why i thought he had a future in this league with the right kind of coach and the right kind of system. 2011 was a lot of fun. i still don’t understand the Broncos fans who didn’t enjoy that run, but many of them didn’t. don’t be fooled... most of the criticism of him is because he’s Christian, assumed to be republican, and an overall decent guy. this drives those on the secular left up the wall. quite literally makes them spitting mad to see him do well.
when it comes to football, the problem Tebow has is simply that he didn’t get all of those many thousands of snaps in HS and college to master the details of becoming a drop back passer for a pro style offense. so he came into the NFL, as a rookie, without that to fall back on while also trying to read coverages and learn the offense. he has a strong arm. his accuracy issues have to do with his mechanics. he also had a tendency to tuck and run if his first read is covered. all of these things can be corrected with time... so anyone who says he’ll never be a competent NFL QB is simply repeating nonsense they’ve heard from elsewhere. he can be if he has time to catch up on all that he missed in HS and college running those spread offenses. the question is whether he’s done enough on his own from 2012 until now to make him worthy of a roster spot now. if not, i think he’ll not get another chance. it’s now or never for him.
I have always liked Tim Tebow, even when I knew he wasn’t good enough to make a team. Then my team signed him, and I could see he wasn’t that good. But I wish him well.
I have always thought of Tim Tebow as the Chi-Chi Rodriguez of football. For those who remember Chi Chi the golfer, will remember his awful swing. If you only looked at the way he hit the ball off the tee, you would never expect to see him in a sudden-death round against Jack Nicholas in the Masters. Compared to Nicholas’ near perfect swing, Rodriguez looked like Happy Gilmore. But he could put the ball on the green and in the hole well enough to be one of the all-time greats. I am just a casual sports fan, and seeing the results is much more complex in football, but Tebow seems to have the Rodriguez touch.
The Pope is coming to Philadelphia in a few weeks. I heard it’s to get Tebow’s blessing.

i live in the dc area, so even though i’m not a redskins fan, i see a lot of them by default. anyway, to my eyes, there isn’t much difference between tebow and rg3. both of them have issues going through progressions and have a tendency to bail out. both of them are not that accurate, although griffin throws a bit better than tebow. if griffin was a white professed christian, he would have been run out of town by now.
I hated Tebow when he was at Florida simply because he was so dang good (I’m a Bama fan) - but I’ve pulled for him every step of the way in the NFL. I hope it finally comes together for him.
The article rightly says that Barkley looked good. Chip Kelly commented that Tebow had done well “when his receivers ran the right routes” - Tebow was after all in there with the dregs of the preseason roster - but Barkley unambiguously looked like a real quarterback. The irony is that Mark Sanchez didn’t stay in long, and didn’t cover himself with glory when he did, to my eye.But Kelly seems to be committed to the idea that Sanchez is a quarterback, and as a former Jets fan (now back “home” in the Eagles’ TV market) I think I may be forgiven for wondering why. They’re paying Chip Kelly, and they sure ain’t paying me. But if Kelly’s worst problem is to figure out which impressive player to retain for #3 QB and which to let go, I’d say Kelly has things in pretty good shape.
I wouldn’t be amazed if Kelly traded Barkley just because he could get something for him - and Tebow would sign for cheap and be OK if Bradford and Sanchez both went down in a game.
