Implicit bias means we're all probably at least a little bit racist [John 5]

There's a word for why we're all probably at least a little bit racist, even if we really don't want to be: Implicit bias.

It's a term that describes what's happening when, despite our best intentions and without our awareness, racial stereotypes and assumptions creep into our minds and affect our actions. It seeps into just about every aspect of life, including areas like criminal justice that can have deadly consequences. Thirty years of neurology and cognitive psychology studies show that it influences the way we see and treat others, even when we're absolutely determined to be, and believe we are being, fair and objective.

That's why implicit racial bias has been called "the new diversity paradigm — one that recognizes the role that bias plays in the day-to-day functioning of all human beings." Here's what you need to know about how it works, how it permeates American life from education to health to policing, and why, as Obama suggested, it can be even more insidious than the kinds of racism that are most familiar to us...

A loaded question is a question that contains an unjustified assumption (e.g., a presumption of guilt). Example:

"Have you stopped beating your wife?"

Whether the respondent answers "yes" or "no", they will admit to having a wife and having beaten her at some time in the past. A loaded question is a logical fallacy that attempts to limit direct replies to be those that serve the questioner's agenda. It is a powerful "rhetorical tool" that is used to support and drive the questioner's agenda. In this case, the progressive agenda. How many Caucasian Americans have owned slaves? How many belong to the KKK (only Democratic Senators). How many secretly write racists posts? We may have fact based preconceived notions about our safety in Chicago, or theft in Baltimore, however this has nothing to do with race. In fact, there is only one race, the human race or which we are all part.

However, the progressives in America are working at light speed to drive an Anti-Christian, Anti-American, Communist Globalist agenda; and it is working! The most righteous nation in the history of man, that fought a civil war to free men, has lost its moral authority due to fornication, abortion, and homosexuality. Because we abdicated our moral authority, since 1973, the same people that gave us Roe v Wade are shaming our children into capitulation to open borders, sodomy, and statism. Jesus Christ warned that if we would not receive Him, and hold on to His Word, that we WOULD receive someone, for we were made to worship. This figure will be irresistible to the morally bereft, guilt-ridden masses, similar to the way it is impossible to criticize Obama without being a racist. So, for the record: "Have you quit being racially biased?"

John 5: 42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another *, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

like this? A question for ISIS members: " Who is better in bed? Your goat or your wife?"

"we're all probably at least a little bit racist

Anyone who didn’t know this just hasn't been paying attention.

In our country’s recent history we’ve celebrated diversity in our population as if it were a good thing. However, one look at world history will show you that no country with a diverse population of different races, languages, and religion has long survived.

Countries don’t naturally form with a diverse population, and when in the past they’ve occurred it’s usually been as a result of armed conquest. These unnaturally formed countries have either melded together into a single population made up of one mixed race with one language and one religion or they’ve come apart, and they’ve usually come apart with extreme violence. The longer these diverse populations are forced to coexist with one another without mixing and becoming one, the more the hatred grows among them and the more violently they break apart, but break apart they will, or genocide will settle the issue once and for all.

Why is this and why can’t we all just get along? The truth of the matter is that we (the human race) just aren't as civilized as we would like to think we are. Our species, Homo-sapiens-sapiens, isn’t that long “out of the trees” and the veneer of civilization is very thin, to non-existent, upon us all. We’re all carrying the genes that got us here and some of those genes carry a very basic survival instinct that has allowed us to survive thus far.

This most basic of all survival instincts is self preservation and it’s the one that warns us to be very wary of those who are different than us, our family, and our tribe. Those who possessed this survival instinct survived and reproduced, and those who had no fear/distrust of strangers didn’t survive. Over the years, this survival instinct has been referred to as tribalism, nationalism, ethnocentrism, racism, and various other isms, but it’s an inborn instinct carried in our genes whether we like it or not.

Well said, DJ. I’ve been saying for years that there’s a reason we’re “racist.” Humans are social/tribal animals. We are comfortable with what’s familiar.

“Implicit bias” isn’t, as the article implies, a human failing. It’s a necessary survival trait of a sentient being. We make mental models based on experience, or by learning from those we trust. These models enable us to function in the world without performing constant, time-consuming analysis. How much thought do you put into whether the floor will disappear before your next step, or whether it will turn into a pool of hot lava?

Sometimes these mental models fail us, and that time-consuming analysis is worth our while. If the floor were to collapse under the person in front of you, it would then be wise to tread carefully. That is the exception, not the rule.

With regard to race, bigotry, in the *commonly understood sense*, is worth taking to time to recognize in ourselves and root out. Obsession with microagressions, on the other hand, just paralyses us, and is a waste of our time.

So everyone's a racist? What a shock! That assertion is only supported by... recorded history.

Lefties are big on the notion of man existing as just another animal in the world. If one's a Darwinist then one should easily recognize the survival advantage of associating most closely within the most local societal construct. Animals use physical attributes to most quickly identify potential threats, both inter- and intra-species.

The genie is always there in the bottle. The harder the attempts at jumping up and down attempting to suppress an instinct as if it is the very worst thing in the world... well, look at the Balkans, or Africa, or the Middle East. Equilibrium will out eventually, but forcing closer and closer proximity when the propensity is to naturally separate generally just exacerbates the violence of the reversion to norm.

The nonsensical notion that it is wrong for people to identify with those with whom they share a common history or identity, common values, etc., has been pushed by the Left for generations. (See Myths & Myth Makers, particularly the section on the Harvard Professor, Gordon Allport.)

One can fairly attack those who demonize others simply because they are different. But the Left has employed a subtle bait and switch. Parlaying the idea of unfair treatment, into an attack on normal preferences. One does not spring from the other, but the endless iteration of bogus charges implying that it does, is the favored tactic of those who seek to break down our culture.

I agree! Even the word “Bias” is loaded. Our mental models are not biases.

“...is the favored tactic of those who seek to break down our culture.”

This “celebration” of diversity and multiculturalism in the American population was introduced in the 1960s and 70s as a deliberate divisive revolutionary tool wielded by Marxists like Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers and other radicals. It became dogma taught by Marxists in our universities, then spread by our leftist controlled news media and leftist controlled Hollywood. The intent was, and is, to split American culture along race and class lines and set off a “proletarian” revolution to destroy capitalism. The Left has now managed to elect a half-Black radical as President and their revolution is proceeding along very predictable lines, with him using every opportunity to stir up more division and discontent. A reading of the Constitution of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA at this link should make clear their goals and methods: http://revcom.us/Constitution/constitution.html

I do find it interesting that the most prized virtues in Leftism seem to be those most opposed to self-preservation. It’s not too surprising, as their ideal is to completely sublimate the individual within the collective societal construct (the state). And it leads to little aphorisms like “a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged.”

So if this is put in front of me to eat, it's "implicit bias" if I don't immediately and equally assume that this is a bowl of mashed potatoes?

Reminds me of this Bill Murray joke...

Doctor: Draws two circles and asks patient, "What do you see?"
Patient: "Sex."

Doctor: Draws trees, "What do you see?"
Patient: "sex".

Doctor: Draws a car, owl, house...what do you see?
Patient: "Sex, sex, sex".

Doctor: "You seem to be obsessed with sex?"
Patient: "Well you're the one drawing all the dirty pictures!"

The attack on an immigration policy that sought to favor immigrants most congenial to our existing culture, began well before the '60s or '70s. In my freshman year in College (1952/1953), I had to confront the attack on the then just passed McCarren-Walter Immigration bill. As a Government Major, I permanently alienated my Faculty Adviser, by ridiculing the idea that there was anything wrong with the National Origins policy. The cry then was not "diversity," but the Left had the same rationale as now.

I have no personal animosity against any race or nation on earth. But people are not interchangeable; and no one who really respects the actual diversity of Mankind, has a compulsive need to pretend that they are. We deal with evil intentions, here; evil not always perceived by the advocate of that evil, but evil nonetheless. Trashing any people's cultural heritage is simply wrong--all the more so, when it is your own.

The goal of the intended "construct," however, is beyond the State. The whole reason for the "diversity" cult, is to try to homogenize all of Mankind into a world wide collective. They are consciously seeking to break down communities; to create a form of chaos that will only be manageable on an international stage.

Obama's attack on affluent neighborhoods; the third world favoring immigration policy; the hysteria over carbon emissions world-wide--which after all actually help vegitation;--all are wholly consistent with that purpose.

Simple question:
“Would you, if it has not shown in your family’s medical history yet, want the probability of sickle cell anemia or epstein-barr syndrome, in your bloodline?”

If we’re all biased then blacks are too and their bias cancels out white bias.

Oh, the author meant only whites are biased!
