These iPhones are dressed to kill.
[UPDATE August 13, 10:00 AM] In Manitoba, Canada, a man attended a crowded beach with the iPhone 6 gun case mentioned in this article tucked into his bathing suit. Forced to assume that the handle sticking out of the mans pants was a real handgun, multiple police officers, armed with rifles and tasers, were sent to the beach to address the situation.
When it became clear that the man was armed with merely a cell phone case, the frustrated officers let the man go after destroying the case.
Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had the following to say:
The call we get is that a man is in possession of a handgun on a crowded beach. We have to respond accordingly, putting potentially a lot of people at risk.
Our officers have to assume that this is a real handgun.
He then insisted that people avoid purchasing the gun case in the future, and that those who already own one immediately destroy it.
I would say take a hammer to it. [That] would be safe disposal. Step on it hard, throw it in a fire. Just make sure it doesnt look like a firearm or a handgun. We recommend that [you] melt it, break it into thousands of little pieces.
iPhone cases come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some of them have nifty little rabbit ears, some have Doctor Who or My Little Pony or whatever you like printed on the back. There are cases to appease anyones taste, really.
This one is shaped like a gun
a really realistic gun, at that.
Police departments all across the U.S. are posting pictures of the gun case, warning people to not buy them.
Not only is the case shaped like a gun, it also comes with an app that displays a gun barrel on the iPhones screen. It sells for anywhere from $10 to $49 on Amazon.com, where sellers claim you can protect your phone from scratches, shocks and collisions, and make your mobile phone shining and special.
Other police officers have made comments that are a little more dire than others.
The money that is earned from the sale of this case is blood money earned from the blood of the person who is foolish enough to carry it Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmens Benevolent Association
If I were a cop and it was dark and I saw this (case) on a person, my first thought would be to pull my gun and defuse the threat. Brooklyn community activist Tony Herbert
How do you folks feel about the iPhone gun case? Ill admit that when I was a teen, I wouldve been drooling all over it, but man, it scares the crud out me thinking about kids carrying that around now. Dont you agree? Share your thoughts below!
well...it keeps the phone within earshot. :P
I. AM. NOT. KIDDING.
Don’t bring a phone to a gun fight...so many ways this can backfire on you.
So Tony, you admit you carry in NYC?
Does this gun make my butt look big?
I want one!
Did you read the first part of his quote?
Yeah, I did, but it didn’t *click*...
Suppose there was a crazed individual with a concealed assault weapon who was intent on a mass beach killing but stopped because he thought there was an armed citizen in the group?
Just think what would happen to his kid if he took it to school? Lock down, SWAT Team, tasers, suspension, expulsion, psychiatric evaluations and anything else guaranteed to give the kid nightmares.
Anyone using it in outside of Japan, well, it's your life bud.
Too bad Canada’s founders didn’t include gun rights in their founding documents. However, they never had to fight for independence.
These police departments are inadvertently warning people that their cops don't give a damn about the Second Amendment. Think about it.
A gun to the head is pretty sick... having known people who have committed suicide with a gun. This would be pretty nasty to see someone with a gunlike imitation up beside their head. It would definitely get the heart racing in hopes of “saving” someone from what would appear to be a potential suicide.
unless you live in an open carry State, this is a wildly stupid idea
“Police departments all across the U.S. are posting pictures of the gun case, warning people to not buy them.
These police departments are inadvertently warning people that their cops don’t give a damn about the Second Amendment. Think about it.”
People handle a cellphone (case) much differently than a firearm. Many people have never handled a firearm and do not understand the responsibility that goes along with such.
The cops gets a call about a guy waving a gun around. They arrive at the scene and start yelling at the suspect to drop the weapon while their guns are drawn and aimed at the suspect. The suspect is freaked out by cops pointing guns at him and rather than dropping the ‘cellphone’ starts swinging it around trying to explain “it’s just a cellphone”.
