FOOD BANKS STRUGGLE TO MEET SURPRISING DEMAND
AP ^ | August 13, 2015 | Scott McFetridge

Food banks across the country are seeing a rising demand for free groceries despite the growing economy, leading some charities to reduce the amount of food they offer each family.

U.S. food banks are expected to give away about 4 billion pounds of food this year, more than double the amount provided a decade ago, according to Feeding America, the nation's primary food bank network. The group gave away 3.8 billion in 2013.

Of course they are. America exports jobs, brings in millions of illegals, destroys business opportunities and re-elects idiots to office hostile to business.

What could possibly go wrong with all that?

Now, let’s find out what slutty thing the Kardashians are up to today and get the latest from should-be mental-health patient Jenner for “news”.

Good gosh, America, can you not see your own destruction at hand?

And most of those food banks are operated by and funded by those Christian churhes and organizations. Funny I don’t think I’ve ever of. Muslim food bank or one run by a mosque.

Could it be because it is so easy now to use an EBT card for everything else instead of food? I just used a self service machine in the post office and one of the options for payment was EBT cards!!!

Been thinking about going back to church but found the closest parish does a lot of “ministry” work directed at illegals.

Don’t they understand that coming here illegally is a sin?!?!

I saw an article a while back on the problem of a traffic jam at the local food bank when it was open.

Needless to say,it annoyed me.

Sadly I don’t think my Catholic Church seems to care.

Illegal or not, if they fill the pews, put money in the collection basket, register as Catholics in surveys to give the Church political clout, they want them here.

It their fire break against all of the other stupid things they are doing to drive existing Catholics away from the Church.

> My wife works with a woman who goes to the food bank on a regular basis. Both the woman and her husband work, so they do not need to go there, they are just cheap. One day she brought in a half a flat of tomatoes for everyone.

That's just so wrong especially when there so many people that are really going without. One form of reverse racism that's becoming common is white people being denied welfare assistance by "minority" employees. I am hoping James O'Keefe or soneone likeminded will do an expose on this.

EBT in the Post Office???? We’ve gone completely off the rails.

The food banks are being slammed predominately by illegals, most likely. What a great country....come here ILLEGALLY, sit on your a$$ and collect all kinds of handouts...compliments of the taxpaying fools :-/

This rural area is almost evenly divided between Latino and Anglo-but that isn’t obvious, since we are all Caucasian/white, and look the same, with variations in hair and skin tone.

The people I see at the food bank near the general store are hard-eyed women wearing nicer clothes than I can afford, with several squalling kids hanging on them, driving SUVs and pick-ups that are many years newer than mine. There are also a few known local drunks and methheads among them-it looks like places in Appalachia I’ve heard about. Most of them are only there because the stuff is free, and no questions are asked-not because they can’t afford food...

I have had to go to food banks 4 or four times in my life. the one thing that struck me was that a lot of the people that was there were not desperate like I was. the last time I went to a food banl was 3 years ago. and I noticed a couple of things most of the people there had cell phones (expensive ones) being poor I had decided that owning one was to expensive. A lot of the cars were new and were expensive ones. from talking to a lot of people I discovered that they did mot need it but were here because they knew it was free. I was embarrassed to be taking charity at the time. The biggest problem that the food banks have is that half the people using them should not be using them and the food banks don’t know when they are just being taken advantage of rather then helping someone who is down on there luck.

"James Ziliak, who founded the Center for Poverty Research at the University of Kentucky, said the increased demand is surprising since the economy is growing and unemployment has dropped from 10 percent during the recession to 5.3 percent last month."

This paragraph nearly made me smash my computer. Don't you just want to grab people like this (and the author) by the lapels and shake some sense into them?!!?

That’s the same impression I get looking at my local food bank. That we are forced to carry a huge burden of freeloading idiots in order to make sure that subset of truly needy people gets help.

Yep. And Toys for Tots, etc. when the news shows the giveaways here they are all either black or Hispanic. Pffffffftttt! I give all year long in taxes to ‘give away’ to them. Not gonna pile on and give them more.

It's right there in their face and they still refuse to admit the lie.
And yes, it pisses me off.

For the 100th time on this forum. EBT cards have 2 sections to them. The one is for food stamps and the other is for cash if they are receiving cash benefits. They are both put on the same card.....separately. If they have an amount for food stamps on them the register knows it. If they have cash on them the register knows that. Food stamps buy food and the cash part is just like a debit card.
