Waitresses making $15 an hour no longer getting tips, many of them are taking home less money. Plus businesses have slashed free meals and free parking in some places.
Heads up nyc. Coming to you soon. And, once a lot of them found out that their new yearly income would kick them off some of the “free” stuff, they started requesting fewer hours so they could stay on the “free” stuff list. Weird how that works huh?
I had jobs where I made ridiculous amounts of money in tips. In fact, getting my first "real" job was painful. I worked all week for what I could make in one shift often times.
I’ve been waitressing for less than a month in a small town in rural Minnesota. I’m already doing pretty well with tips: I certainly average higher than $15/hour. Raising the minimum wage would hurt servers and there would be less incentive to give excellent service. I’ve gotten many tips above 20%-probably because I’m an adult who knows what paying customers expect. I’m also hustling like crazy, we all are, to make sure we meet the needs of our customers. Without the possibility if a tip, service may decline for some waitresses.
It shouldn’t, but there is something about a reward based on performance that pushes servers to excellence.
