Demonstrators flee in multiple directions, hiding behind cars and taking cover in buildings as the shots ring out.
Two people have been shot during clashes between police and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, one year since Michael Brown was killed by a white police officer.
St Louis County Police Department say an officer returned shots after coming under heavy gunfire.
It was unclear where the shots came from but St Louis County Police Department also tweeted at least two unmarked cars took shots, with accompanying photos showing a car with a smashed windscreen ("windshield" to us).
Associated Press reported that one of their photographers saw a man lying face-down, covered in blood, and a woman nearby screaming: "Why did they do it?"
The news agency quoted a man nearby as saying.: "They killed my brother,"(conyinued)

...Shots were heard and additional police in riot gear and heavily armored vehicles went to the area...... Looted Bowen Beauty Supply Multiple store windows were smashed ...A cash register was stolen from Bowen's Beauty Store and found dumped further up the street...as Ferguson Laundry, the Nail Trap nail salon, Ferguson Burger restaurant and another beauty store had windows smashed and looting.... .
Witnesses said that at least 12 shots were fired at the McDonald's parking lot
Before the looting took place around 9pm, protesters had walked up and down West Florissant Avenue holding their arms up in the rain shouting, .....'Fight back, shoot back' and 'No justice, no peace'.

One perp that opened fire on a police SUV is in critical condition. He opened fire on the police vehicle (unmarked SUV with interior blue lights flashing) at nearly point-blank range, near the grill of the SUV.
There were four officers inside, they chased him into an enclosed area. He went down, as far as I know none of these policemen were shot.
Police chief says the situation is “untenable”.

A pox on all those trying to create civil unrest in society.
If the people want to riot, burn their city down, loot the hair-weave and nail shops (apparently the biggest cash cows in the area), let them have at it. Let the "community" see how bad things can get with no police presence.
Better yet; they should leave the policing of this lost city to the Feds.
Local Boston news opened with, "police shoot man in Ferguson Missouri during protests." It took a while before they got to the fact that the police were returning fire.

That seems to be the modus operandi of NJ’s urban police; simply stand down in those areas (all the time). No reason to risk your life, badge, pension, and freedom trying to do your job...
