Riyadh, Moscow to Meet Over ISIS, Syria

Russian and Saudi officials to meet over Middle East issues -- just after news surfaces of a secret meeting between Russia, Iran.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir will visit Moscow on Tuesday to discuss Syria conflict and the Islamic State group with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign ministry said Saturday.

The two ministers last met in Qatar on August 3 when Lavrov, Jubeir and US Secretary of State John Kerry held a three-way meeting, with the situation in Syria topping the agenda.

The ministers will continue "a discussion on ways to resolve the crisis in Syria," the Russian foreign ministry said.

Moscow said topics would include the "sharp growth in strength of various extremist groups, primarily the so-called Islamic State."

"The ministers will discuss the possibility of Russia-Saudi cooperation in fighting terrorism, which is in the interests of both countries," the ministry said.

It said they would discuss Russia's proposal to create a "broad international coalition to fight the Islamic State gunmen inside Syria."

Moscow said the ministers would also pay "great attention" to the conflict in Yemen where a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia is fighting Iran-backed Houthi rebels and discuss strategies for a "speedy resolution."

The meeting follows news that Russian officials met with top Iranian terror leader Qassem Soleimani last month, and just as tensions heighten between the Islamic Republic and the Gulf states.

Russia and Iran are close partners. The two countries have both backed the Syrian regime in the ongoing civil war; Moscow is also preparing to deliver S-300 missile defense systems to Tehran despite a chorus of international criticism.

“Riyadh, Moscow to Meet Over ISIS, Syria”

lol, desperation comes to mind, on Saudi part especially.
Then again, it’s a business deal for Putin, all around.
ISIS is there to stay; the moment “ISIS” becomes somewhat outdated, another ‘radical islamist grp’ will take its place in name too & we’ll be endlessly fed the same nonsense, over and over again.

Both of them are more intercoursed every day because of the oil price and exchange rates.
