In a Spiegel interview, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev discusses morals and politics in the nuclear age, the crisis in Russian-American relations and his fear that an atomic weapon will some day be used. [ ]
It was clear to me that relations with America and the West would be a lasting dead end without atomic disarmament, with mutual distrust and growing hostility. That is why nuclear disarmament was the highest priority for Soviet foreign policy. [ ]
(C)an we really imagine a world without nuclear weapons if a single country amasses so many conventional weapons that its military budget nearly tops that of all other countries combined? This country (the USA) would enjoy total military supremacy if nuclear weapons were abolished. [ ] It is an insurmountable obstacle on the road to a nuclear-free world. Thats why we have to put demilitarization back on the agenda of international politics. [ ]
We have reached a crossroads in relations between America and Russia. Many are already talking about a new Cold War. Talks between both powers over important global problems have practically been put on ice. That includes the question of nuclear disarmament. Trust, the very capital we worked so hard to build, has been destroyed.

Don’t forget the American people Gorby.
No more Pearl Harbors for us, buddy,
Another ole fart who should just die. He had his chance and blew it. Thank you President Reagan
Blame Obama.
He closed a $Billion Dollar hole in the ground, where we were going to store nuclear waste...
I knew it was all about hating a black man. Janeane Garofalo told me so.
Isn’t that idiot dead yet?
No more than Jimmy Carter is.
Yea, I didn't think so. /flip
Reagan was a far far superiour man.
The press makes fun of Reagan bringing up an alliance against an alien invasion with Gorby.
It was a rhetorical point because Reagan wanted peace.
Not quite the warmonger.
Also not a word out of Gorbachev about Putin threatening to use nukes twice thus far.
Says the U. S. S. R.’s Jimmy Carter...
Hey Gorby, I believe Russia has more warheads than we do.
I guess that’s no problem huh.

Gorby sounds like kin to the Obamanation.
I wonder if Gorbachev is in cahoots with the Obama Admin, Gorby setting up the predicate that the U.S. needs to cut back on its nuclear warheads. Obama really would like to do this bigtime, he wrote his college thesis on nuclear disarmament. This would perfectly finish off his agenda of fundamentally transforming America, by disarming her so as to create maximum vulnerability for the U.S.
As Obama has been pushing his Iran nuclear treaty, he may not be able to accomplish his nuclear disarmament urges at this time, but if he could or can get away with it, he would and might try to.
I remember when he walked out at Reykjavik. One of the greatest negotiating moves in history. Obama and Kerry will never understand.
Gorby’s on to something.
Gorbachev turns 85 today. Time marches on...
