Bloomberg: Fox News Couldn't Kill Trump's Momentum And May Have Only Made It Stronger

A few hours before Thursday’s Fox News debate, a friend of Donald Trump’s confided to me that Trump was nervous. Not about the competition—he could handle them. No, Trump worried about Fox News, and in particular, debate moderator Megyn Kelly. She’d been hammering him all week on her show, and he was certain she was out to get him. He’d canceled a Fox News appearance on Monday night, the friend said, in order to avoid her. (Trump’s spokeswoman wouldn’t confirm or deny this.)

Has Mr. Trump been made much more popular because of last night?

Most people probably only watched it because of Trump.

I thought Trump came off poorly. TV is a cool medium. He was a bit obnoxious, which is okay for a 10-second soundbite. It wasn’t for a debate setting.

Most people probably only watched it because of Trump.

Which is why I welcome him to the race. More people will see the other great candidates and when Trump fizzles we'll end up with two great candidates.

If only it had been a debate setting.

I don’t know if Trump is more popular because of last night.
One thing I do know is regular folks don’t like news people badgering candidates. If Megan didn’t know before last night,I’m pretty sure that she knows it now.

Megyn Kelly was too obvious and over the top in her blatant attacks.

People saw it - it was unprofessional.

Yes, he’s much stronger because the media is so hated and he doesn’t put up with them.

I thought the debate was OK... but... too much of the talking was the moderators (bigger egos than the candidates perhaps?). The one disappointment was when Ted Cruz asked permission to speak instead of just speaking out... as Trump woulda done. Sometimes Ted you might should just tell the moderators to go to heck and speak your peace... kinda like Trump would do.

The moderator showed no moderation. What a terrible abuse of the privilege she was given.

Not less popular. Megan Kelly and Chris Wallace acted poorly. Their trying to knock him down was way, way out of line for what their role should have been. Audiences would resent their unfairness. Trump was the winner in raising his hand - tantamount to saying to them, “You are out of line here. You’ve overstepped your bounds big time here in thinking you have the right to make or break a candidate”

The biggest mistake of this primary season is that Howard Stern didn’t get in. Now we know he really had a chance. Maybe Stern can still get into the Democrat primary so we can have two foul-mouthed loudmouths with unfocused, inconsistent policy positions facing off against each other. Entertainment seems to be more important in this cycle than finding someone who will seriously solve the country’s problems.

I remember an old political cartoon from the early 1960s. Uncle Sam is very carefully stepping on Foreign Policy eggs and each one breaks. A bypasser says, “I wish he would just stomp on them every once in a while!”

It appears Trump is stomping on the PC eggs.

Trump is very amusing and entertaining, but so are jugglers.

He really came across last night as surly. He answers every question with attitude, which is fun, but I doubt he convinced any new comers to join him. He appears to be only attitude.

Cruz came across very well, we need to whittle down the field so he gets more air time.

At this point, my dream ticket would be Cruz/Carson.

He made Rosie O'Fathead the poster child for "disgusting animals." That can't be a bad thing.

***TV is a cool medium.***

I still remember the debate between Nixon and Kennedy.

On the RADIO, Nixon trounced Kennedy.

On TV, Nixon came off the loser because of his looks, compared to Kennedy.

Trump got more time than anyone. He gets more coverage than anyone.

The MSM is not trying to stop Trump until they try to ignore him.
