...The American people, (Carter White House chief of staff) Hamilton Jordan said, are not going to elect a seventy-year old, right-wing, ex-movie actor to be president.
So went one of the much reported views of the day on Ronald Reagan, this one by President Jimmy Carters White House chief of staff and campaign manager.

I’m a conservative. I would never vote for someone as far left as Trump
I won’t vote for Trump, either. But our guys need to learn to be BRAVE & speak their mind. Stop being namby-pamby & ‘moderate’ when that’s really not what people want.
When even in Blue Oregon an initiative to prevent illegal aliens passes by 2 to 1, it should tell the Nat’l GOP that people are upset about the illegal immigration problem. If any of them had really spoken out hard on that topic Trump wouldn’t be in the news today.
That should have been ‘an initiative to prevent illegal aliens ‘from getting drivers licenses’ passes by 2 to 1...
And there you have it.
Luckily we have Cruz who has been pushing for bold colors, even referencing that exact quote, ever since he did the filibuster against Barrycare. Cruz has been fighting our fight in the heart of the D.C. cesspool for years. No one could have the positive impact on this country’s policies that he could as president. He knows how to criticize the establishment while maintaining a sense of polished respectability, which will together make him highly electable.
With just a few tweaks, Trump would have made a perfect old school Democrat, the kind the loves his country and doesn’t want to wreck it.
I always enjoy Jeffrey Lord’s work.
If Trump and Cruz could forge a really good working relationship—and if Trump isn’t a Clinton setup—they could be a great pairing as President and Veep.
But some of Trump’s ideas, such as on which party is better for the economy, the merits of protectionism, and the merits of single-payer healthcare, are really scary. Without a solid conservative like Cruz to help provide that policy compass, I’m not so sure what a Trump presidency would end up doing.
Bump for later.
Trump/bush ticket?
