Jeb Bush was uneven and tepid in his first debate as a presidential candidate.
The former Florida governor struggled to find a comfort zone in the debate setting, looking at times like he was trying to process a multitude of thoughts simultaneously, very unlike his more confident self on the campaign trail in less formal settings.
If Bush is workmanlike in a speech, but animated and inspired in a question-and-answer session or a town hall setting, then in his first time on the debate stage he looked uncertain.
Hes got to look the part, one of his advisers said before the night kicked off. Bush did not for most of the night. He stumbled over his words, lacked assertiveness and failed to go on offense as aggressively as he could have.
Bush supporters argued he had done all that he needed or even intended to do: show up, be steady, and play it safe.
Hes keeping his place and showing that he is different than the family name, that he has his own distinct record, said Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), who was one of several members of Congress who spoke to reporters afterwards on Bushs behalf.
Even Bushs most ardent critics didnt put a ton of stock in the significance of one night.
He gave mangled answers.
I dont think he helped himself. I dont think he hurt himself, said Brent Bozell, a veteran conservative movement leader supporting Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) who has repeatedly bashed Bush and called him unelectable.

I would love to see what Rove has on his white board this morning.
>>Bush supporters argued...<<
Other than his family, brother and dad/mom, who in the heck is a “Bush supporter?”
eGOP+amnesty supporters+democrats from what I can tell.
I will be your candidate whether you like it or not.
He’s a sad sack.
And he’s got weird body language - looking over people’s heads when they’re talking to him, not making eye contact and a new one: putting his head to one side when someone asks a question.
There’s the look I just mentioned in my previous post: what’s with the head on the side whenever he’s asked a question? My dog does that!
Not news.....but he only underperforms in relation to the others on the dais. He was On Par with his usual RINO performances.
Is that some sort of ...well... I don’t know. I don’t think he is autistic but, something is going on.
then I’ll write in Captain Freaken Kangaroo.
Is that fake tan on purpose?
To appeal to Hispanics?
“And hes got weird body language - looking over peoples heads when theyre talking to him, not making eye contact”
Interesting! He actually did that to me when I asked him a face-to-face question at an event when he first ran for governor. (BTW, nice guy, pre-Establishment.)
I’m trying to think of an instance when he over performed—but nothing comes to mind.
The only Bush I’ve ever liked or admired is Laura—LOL!
That was definitely one of the big underreported stories of the night. Bush by no means killed his campaign, but he was possibly the worst on the stage in presence and concise communication. He’d get steamrolled in the general. We had a lot of A+ communicators on that stage - from the bombastic Trump, Christie and Paul to the charismatic Rubio, and the tacticians Cruz and Kasich. Even Ben Carson did well once he got his sea legs. Bush was underwhelming and unexciting.
Oh BOOHOO Little Jebbie had nobody to blame but his own boring inept self..
Wow! That’s pretty strong!
Supportive of Megan (trump attacked her) Disusing Trump. (Quoting Luntz) Stammering — stuttering —more STUPID every time has on.
He claims the American base just can’t get behind Trump. Lets see if we can convince Faux to set up a poll between KR and DT.
In this race as it now stands as far as I’m concerned at the moment you have Walker, Cruz and the wildcard of Trump.
Anyone else on that stage is just more of the same.
Ideologically I like Cruz the best, Walker has the track record of taking on the 50+ years of liberal lunacy and winning, and Trump is well, Trump. I know I will never agree 100% with him on policy, but if you believe what he is saying is what he believes, He’d definitely be better than anything that the Democrats or any of other of the R candidates that I have not listed will offer.
I’m still not sure if he’s serious about his run or not, but its obvious the press on both sides of the isle are out to attempt to destroy him and that alone gives him major bonus points in my book.
