How To Really Defend Planned Parenthood
New York Times ^ | August 5, 2015 | Katha Pollitt

Posted on 08/05/2015 6:14:52 PM PDT by Belteshazzar

WHY does the pro-choice movement so often find itself in a defensive crouch? I cringed as I watched Planned Parenthood’s president, Cecile Richards, apologize in a YouTube video last month for the lack of “compassion” in two doctors’ language at supposed business lunches arranged and secretly recorded by the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress. Not because she wasn’t eloquent, but because of what her words said about the impossibly narrow path abortion providers now are forced to walk. After all, have you ever heard an apology from a crisis pregnancy center for masquerading as an abortion clinic? What about the women in Texas who lost access to gynecological care when the state defunded Planned Parenthood and did not, as promised, adequately replace its services? Has anyone said sorry about that? Logically, it’s not important how doctors talk at supposedly private meetings. If they were heart surgeons I doubt it would be an issue. But these are abortion providers, and that makes all the difference. So far, the surreptitiously filmed videos, five of which have now been released, do not, as claimed, show that Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue for profit, which is against the law. But the videos do cleverly evoke visceral feelings of disgust — graphic images, physicians using the words “crush” and “crunchy” — to activate the stereotype that abortion providers are money-grubbing baby killers.

One can just see the fiery fervency burning in Katha Pollitt's eyes as she wrote this article intending to defend women from being treated as mere objects to whom things happen, and demanding that they be seen as subjects, who think, speak, and act on and for their own best interests. In her zeal, of course, she is perfectly willing to demand that the unborn be treated as objects only. In other words, to protect what she views as the humanity of women, she is perfectly willing to deny humanity to the unborn. Somehow I think Dred Scott, his wife Harriet, and his daughters Eliza and Lizzie, if they were alive today, would recognize Pollitt's argument as very familiar, very close-to-home.

Why should they apologize. They are saving lives. That’s different than chopping up babies and selling their livers. For that, one should apologize.

WHY does the pro-choice movement so often find itself in a defensive crouch?

Oh, gee, I don't know - maybe because they think it is okay to mutilate and kill children?

I cringed as I watched Planned Parenthood’s president, Cecile Richards, apologize in a YouTube video last month for the lack of “compassion” in two doctors’ language at supposed business lunches arranged and secretly recorded by the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress.

Oh, so that's what made her cringe? No the people talking about "less crunchy" means of killing the babies, "fully intact fetal cadavers", how it is "fun", etc.?

Only eight decades ago, Frau Pollitt would have been the perfect apologist for the Schutzstaffel’s healthcare outreach programs for Jews.

I could only scan the article; the stench was so bad I had to hold my breath and I can’t go without breathing as long as I once could. It was lie stacked on top of llie.

Yeah, Katha.
I know how I cringed when Pol Pot apologized for performing all those 100th trimester abortions too, and used their 'goop' to fertilize the rice fields.

Actually, that's a completely illogical statement.

For planned Parenthood a woman’s womb is a profit center.

Oh, I don't know . . . because abortionists and the people who defend them are scumbags, and most people know it?

Does Pollitt also wonder why graphic pictures of heart surgery might gross people out, but they probably won't provoke them to moral outrage? Talk about a complete lack of self-awareness.

She is, like her erstwhile “husband”, to put it in the Charlestonian vernacular, “as lost as a blind dog in a meat house”. She's a feminist, she rules the house, she dominates the local priest, a Levite, with amnesia.

“Does Pollitt also wonder why graphic pictures of heart surgery might gross people out, but they probably won’t provoke them to moral outrage? Talk about a complete lack of self-awareness.”

Exactly right. Graphic pictures of heart surgery - or really any kind of surgery - will gross most people out. However, after the gross out dissipates, most people will be grateful that there are surgeons and surgical nurses willing and able to do such things and that attitude will make itself known to the medical professionals. When you are talking about abortion, after the gross out comes simple disgust, nay, revulsion and horror. That is the difference that Katha (the conscienceless) does not get. Her conscience is so badly scarred and calloused that she feels nothing for the innocents slaughtered.

Or put it another way. If you run into your surgeon or surgical nurse on the street or in the hallway of the hospital, he or she will likely say “thank you,” or at least have that feeling. If you run into the abortionist or the abortion assistant (I refuse to say doctor or nurse) under similar circumstances you will likely pretend you never saw them, and they you. Why might that be?

Actually I thought someone's auto correct changed defund to defend because there can't be a sane person on the planet that wants to defend planned parenthood.

women like this show me why God made this a man’s world. women believe it would be so much better with them in charge, when in fact it would be far worse.

You are right. No sane person would defend PP. but we all know that liberalism is a mental disease and our country is currently ruled by the insane.
