Several top staffers have left Rick Santorums campaign to create a new super PAC, a move spurred by the cash-strapped candidates anemic fundraising.
Campaign manager Terry Allen, Iowa state coordinator Jon Jones and digital strategist Steve Hilliard Allens son-in-law departed several weeks ago, leaving the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucuses without a campaign manager and raising questions about whether Santorum can last until Iowa votes on Feb. 1 next year.
The reshuffling comes on the heels of another key departure Karen Fesler, a prominent Iowa activist who had been aiding Santorums efforts in the state. She now serves as Rick Perrys Iowa co-chair, the latest of a number of prominent Santorum activists who helped propel him to GOP runner-up status in 2012 but aligned with different candidates in 2016.
The former Pennsylvania senator had among the worst fundraising hauls of the entire presidential field, raising only about $600,000 and spending about 60 percent of that in his first fundraising quarter as a presidential candidate.
Allen, Jones and Hilliard are expected to file the paperwork for a new pro-Santorum super PAC separate from the already existing super PAC, Working Again, launched by Santorums 2012 finance director as early as this week, Allen said in a recent interview.

Rick, I think you’re a good man, but it’s not going to happen. Pack it in, and pursue something that will make a difference.
Hard to sell a product beyond it’s sell by date.
Rick’s agenda is to get picked up for a cabinet job in 2017. I can’t think of a job that I’d offer him....other than US ambassador to Cuba or Mexico.
I worked hard to get Rick Santorum elected in Pennsylvania during the special election against Harris Wofford, a radical liberal appointed by the governor to fill the seat of the late John Heinz (Yes, Teresa Heinz Kerry’s former husband).
I worked to re-elect Senator Santorum, but he fell victim to supporting Bush in a state rife with voter fraud in 2006.
As evidence of voter fraud, not one Republican won a statewide election in Pennsylvania in either 2008 or in 2012. This is traditionally a state that splits its statewide vote often.
But when you stuff the ballot boxes with more straight Democrat votes than registered voters, in places like Philadelphia, you are sure to tip the statewide balance in your favor. Remember all those precincts in Philadelphia that went 100% for Obama and 0% for Romney? Nothing to see here, move on (insert picture of Black Panther with a nightstick)
Unfortunately, Rick had his chance. I think he needs to ride into the sunset and let the next generation of conservatives lead the cause (Cruz, Walker).
“and pursue something that will make a difference.”
Like campaigning for Ted Cruz!
The real purpose of PACs is packing the pockets of the people running the PACs.
Drop out NOW.....
Indeed
I like Santorum, but he is not what this nation need at this time. Trump? Cruz?? Carson??? Carly Fiorina???? Walker?????
Trump is what the USA needs now .
We are at 14 minutes and 58 seconds of Rick’s 15 minutes. Say goodbye, Rick.
As an aside, I like him but there is no way I’d vote for him for president. He needs to lay the groundwork by running for state office again or doing something other than running some advocacy organization and being a TV pundit.
Santorum had real nice momentum the last time, and ‘pubs were on to Romney. Then he started talking about the “need to compromise”. He faded fast after that.
I voted for him last time but wish he had just stayed out of the race this time.
These people really are delusional. Did Rick Santorum actually think he had a shot? The guy is a joke.
He’s the reason we have so many losers now running for president. They say hey if a guy can lose his US senate seat by 50 points (as an incumbent) and then run for president so can I.
Hit the road, Rickie.
Maybe heading up immigration, both legal and illegal, issues. His policy platform is the best among all the candidates....he gets it.
Why hasn’t he quit? No one likes him, others can carry similar message, and he’s simply wasting everyone’s time and money. He especially, and all of the <5% should at a minimum suspend their campaigns and standby. If there is a change, a groundswell for them, great, otherwise, I sure wish they’d should some credible honesty and commonsense to acknowledge their campaigns are doomed.
Go home Rick.
Agreed. Rick overestimates his appeal. He was just the last man standing in the “Any Body but Romney” 2012 primary race. Even then, he could not beat Romney. Same can be said for Perry.
