These skirmishes will continue and become more vicious as we approach the 2016 elections.
>> McCarthy was making phone callshe was whipping it
Stop that before you go blind, McCarthy!
Wonder if that old RINOsaur McConnell is paying attention.
“Embarrassed”” is utterly meaningless. The only question is ... are you in power or not. And Boehner is in power, until he isn’t and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Importantly, though Boehner may now erect obstacles to a vote, he cannot entirely stop it. Everything he might do has a counter to it. Here’s how it works:
“The Motion to Vacate the Chair is a privileged motion. This means that if Congressman Meadows forces it forward it cannot be blocked by the Speaker or his leadership team using procedural tactics or the Rules Committee. They will have to have a vote of the entire House of Representatives.
“Some will note that the Motion has already been sent to the Rules Committee, and thats true. However, Congressman Meadows can move to discharge the Motion from the Committee or, if the Committee votes it down quickly, he can simply submit another Motion to Vacate the Chair and call for a vote that must happen within two legislative days (two days during which the House is in session).
“A ‘Motion to Table’ would be filed by a Boehner ally once the Motion is on the floor. The phrase to ‘table’ a motion comes from the days when everything was done on paper and so, if successful, a ‘Motion to Table’ literally meant that the motion in question would be left on the table - i.e., not taken up.
“Of course, the vote on the Motion to Table becomes the de facto vote on the underlying motion, because logic dictates that all those voting against the Motion to Table will also vote for the Motion to Vacate the Chair.”
All this maneuvering only shows what a game this all is to him and his cronies.
He should move out before it comes to tar and feathers.
One has to check on the game rules the House plays with and uses.
Meadows was just on Laura Ingraham’s morning show (delayed broadcast 1-3pm WFHR 1320 8/3/15) being interviewed by, John Hulocker(?),subbing for Laura.
During that interview, Meadows made no such claim about any vote. He also made it clear his was not a privledged motion but that it could be modified into one. He did express confidence that it would come up after the recess in September. Also he didn’t hammer away at Boehner and resisted doing so, rather reflecting on the direction the house should take .
