It’s really easy to not enable that during the install. I’m not impressed with 10, so I restored Windows 7 from my Clonezilla backup image. The Windows created backup images are worthless.

Thanks for posting this. Disabled that Wi-Fi setting immediately.

Been seeing a ton of posts about Win10.

Someone has to come up with a Windows-esque OS to replace it. One that doesn’t give away your privacy.

"Such powers are not necessary, and while Windows 10 supposedly allows you to opt-out, this setting is the default – they know what they are doing. The vast majority of people do not understand computers and they will be surrendering all rights to Microsoft without understanding what they have done. Why is Microsoft acting in such a hostile manner towards human rights?"

Because Bill Gates is just another Marxist multi-millionaire?

That said, after over thirty years of Windows versions, have we not acquired the savvy to pick and choose the features we want and discard those we don't want? Choose the custom install.

When Windows 10 comes out, I will not accept any defaults without close examination.

What wi-fi? If you want to use my network, you’ll have to plug in an Ethernet cable.

Stuck for now with Win 8. Bought an open box computer and the store had installed a multi-license copy, which won’t register. Not going to spend the $ to buy a copy...

I have Windows 8.1

I've had a start-up icon saying:

Reservation - Confirmed

Download - Complete

Upgrade - Available

And then MS prompts me to continue, but I think I'll wait awhile until I get more feedback from FReepers who have already downloaded Windows 10 to see what their results are.

People are backtracking and calling the ‘wi-fi’ problem a non-problem. It’s not anything that people should be worried about, and the people spreading the FUD are mostly, just anti-MS.

"...they could secretly access your system from hundreds of yards away."

Uh, this is a little bit of a stretch, I think. The typical home wireless router is lucky to offer good coverage all throughout a large home. Hard to swallow the claim of "hundreds of yards"...

Wi-Fi, they could secretly access your system from hundreds of yards away.

Hundreds of feet maybe. Most likely about a hundred feet.
