Ted Cruz Responds to Obama’s Iran ‘Rhetoric’ Comment During Speech at an Iranian-Jewish Synagogue

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made a speech at Nessah Synagogue in Beverly Hills Saturday, an Orthodox Jewish Iranian congregation founded by Persian Jews who left Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution.

In Cruz’s speech, which was given without notes, he spoke of the need to “speak the truth” about the dangers in the world today:

“Today the threats facing Israel, the threats facing America, the threats facing the world have never been greater.

When we call evil by its name, it has a clarifying power that has never been more needed than it is this instant, right now.”

Of these dangers, Cruz emphasized his belief that we are at war with “radical Islamic terror.” To this point, Cruz sent a message directly to President Obama:

“Mr. President, we see across the globe the rise in radical Islamic terror. I’ll tell you right now you cannot win a war on radical Islamic terror with a president and an administration unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terror.'”

Previously, Cruz has said the proposed nuclear deal with Iran would effectively make the Obama administration the “world’s leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism.” President Obama responded this week by classifying Cruz’s remarks as “rhetoric”:

.@tedcruz is turning heads with his Iran rhetoric. Will he make it on to the debate stage? http://t.co/1sRBF6av6z http://t.co/pGOIwMd2VK

Mitt Romney added that Cruz’s comments were not helpful to “the cause”:

I am opposed to the Iran deal, but @SenTedCruz is way over the line on the Obama terrorism charge. Hurts the cause.

Cruz responded to these comments during his speech Saturday:

“I would like to state to the President and any other public leaders, the truth is not rhetoric.

Here are the facts. Iran is today the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world. Fact number two. When this deal goes through, more than $100 billion will flow from U.S. government control directly into Iran.”

Cruz also offered his assessment of the “Death to America” chant from Iranians, while the talks were ongoing:

“In the midst of negotiating this deal, Ayatollah Khameini led a chant of ‘Death to America’ while American flags were burning. If history teaches one principle, it is that if somebody tells you they want to kill you, believe them.”

He concluded by telling the congregation his plans for the nuclear deal:

“Over the next 60 days I intend to do everything humanly possible to energize and mobilize millions of Americans to speak up to Congress to say stop this catastrophic deal.”

And, as he has said over the last six months, he pledged:

“In January of 2017 there will be a new president. And in 2017, if I am fortunate enough to be elected President, the United States will finally move our embassy to Jerusalem.”

Cruz left the sanctuary as the crowd erupted in song. He didn’t publicly take questions or pose for pictures.

The Senator is correct, but someone needs to tell this to Secretary of State Lurch
