Donald Trump: Crimea is Europe's problem
CNN ^ | July 31 3015 | Tom LoBianco

Posted on 07/31/2015 8:08:00 PM PDT by WilliamIII

Washington (CNN)Republican frontrunner Donald Trump said Friday that the U.S. should only step in on Crimea if European countries ask for help and, until then, it remains "Europe's problem."

"Let me explain first of all — this is Europe's problem much more than ours, OK?" Trump told CNN during a trip to Scotland.

"And Europe isn't complaining as much as we are. But this is more of a Europe problem," Trump continued. "And when Europe comes to us and says, 'We want your help, we want your help,' but they're not really doing that. They're dealing with Russia, they're taking in the gas, they're taking in the oil — they're not really doing that. And you know, we're making a big deal out of it."

"But why isn't Germany leading this one?" Trump asked. "You know Germany is a very rich, very powerful nation. Why aren't they dealing on it moreso? Everything the United States — we're like the policeman of the world."

I agree with him, at least the first part that I’ve read.

The idea that we should be involved in Crimea or the (fake country of ) Ukraine is insane.

“Crimea” is not where the fighting is. Eastern Ukraine is where the Russians are killing people.

If you think the US should ignore that, that is delusional.

Got mixed feelings on this one.

Back in the 80’s I had an English roommate at Vanderbilt. I asked him why Europe was always critizing the U.S. and never said a peep about Soviet Russia.

He said “We live next to Russia. If the U.S. isn’t going to take a stand, we certainly aren’t.”

Without US leadership, Europe doesn’t have the ca-hones to stand up to Russia.

On the otherhand, if we are always leading, Europe will never grow a pair.

So it’s a judgement call.

Hey, Iran is not our problem either.

Saudi Arabia? Let ISIS have it.

Japan? Let China have it.

I agree with Trump. The European condemn Russia from one side of their mouth and from the other make all sort of business deals - plus they’re doing squat to becoming less dependent on Russia. They shut down their nuclear power and refuse fracking and the use of coal (although Germany has started building some coal plants.)

Also they want us to carry the burden of any military action.

Trump the negotiator is laying down some groundwork to change this equation.

I don’t care whether Russian is in Ukraine, any more than it was Russia’s business that we occupied Iraq.

Trump is naive on Russia and Putin, and the Putinistas who call Ukraine a “fake country” on this forum are loathsome dogs whose destination is hell.

That said, I still like Trump for President. Russia will continue its aggression, regardless of what Trump thinks, and we will be forced to act sooner or later.

So if China invades Japan, fine?
If ISIS invades Saudi Arabia, okay!
If Israel invades... let me guess, you’d say something

So, no comment on the world falling apart. Telling the few countries that still like us that we won’t even comment when they are attacked. That’s gonna end well.

Best friends tyrants could have. Might as well be visiting Havana, Moscow and Pyongyang and giving them hugs.

HOORAY Donald. It’s not that offensive to let them defend themselves against all enemies foreign and domestic. Spend some Euros, arm your forces, arm your citizens of your great European Union.

I don’t see how you get any of that from the suggestion that Ukraine and Crimea aren’t our problems.

“Ummm yeah. Trump is right. Ball in your court, Angela Merkel”

It’s been pretty clear from the beginning that it has been the Obamunists pushing Merkel on this, not the other way around.

You're talking about European countries being taken over by overtly Communist forces waving flags of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin under the cover of being "separatists," when really they are stocked with Russian military, run by Russian generals and FSB handlers. This same country is also making threats against the Baltics, and simulating nuclear strikes on Poland and the United States. It is reasonable to "get" all of that.

I’m not saying we should be involved in the Crimea, but there’s nothing fake about the country of Ukraine. They have there own language, religious institutions, history, and customs.

“Trump the negotiator is laying down some groundwork to change this equation.”

art of the deal, Chapter ONE

“Negotiations only work if both sides have something to gain from it.”

This isn’t earth-shattering wisdom, (Well, maybe it is to a Democrat), Niccolo Machiavelli wrote a book about it, around 600 years ago.
