Congress must preserve today’s win for American taxpayers
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement regarding the Senate's final passage of a long-term highway reauthorization bill. Immediately following its passage, the Senate approved a three-month highway extension, which the House passed earlier in the week. This short-term extension did not include a provision to resurrect the Export-Import Bank and has been sent to the president for his signature.
"Today was a major win. Just one week ago, the Washington Cartel was certain that the Export-Import Bank -- a quintessential example of cronyism and corporate welfare -- would be reauthorized. The fix was in. And yet, after a long battle on the Senate floor, as Mark Twain might say, reports of Ex-Im's revival were greatly exaggerated.
"The House stood strong and refused to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. And, today, the Senate was forced to relent and pass a three-month extension in the Highway bill, without reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank.
"I commend House conservatives for their strong leadership. This Fall, no doubt, the Washington Cartel will make yet another run at reviving Ex-Im. Lobbyists will descend on Congress, doling out checks and trying to extend hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer loan guarantees to a handful of giant corporations. But, if the House continues to demonstrate their courage of their convictions, together we will make permanent a major victory for hard-working taxpayers. No more cronyism; instead, opportunity for all, and favoritism towards none."

Of all the things they cut. They cut something that actually made money and returned cash to the Treasury, and that was helping our exporters as well.
I think China paid for this so that China’s aerospace and heavy machinery industies could finish off our American industries.
Kudos to conservatives for killing crony capitalism bill.
Government subsidies to anyone, corporations or individuals, do not fall from the sky. They are paid by hard working tax payers.
If a corporation is o inefficient, they need a subsidy, it is best if they be allowed to go bankrupt. That will make more room for the more efficient corporations to grow.
No doubt there are a few American manufacturers that benefited from Ex-Im Bank. They can go to a private bank if they need financing like anyone else.

Seriously, this would be like our armed forces telling our soldiers they have to arrange to source and buy their own bullets like any other citizen. It just doesn't make sense.

LASTING Jobs are not created by taking taxes from the more efficient and giving subsidies to less efficient corporations. It is called fascism.
All I know is that Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have been pimping for reauthorization and I can’t find many good things that they have supported.

Forrest Gump voice- I may not be a smart man, but I don’t understand why someone on a conservative website would want the government to use taxpayer dollars to subsidize private business. Solyndra, anyone?

Where does that money to finance subsidies to less efficient corporations comes from? Is there a money tree in Washington DC?
That money comes from other hard working tax payers and more efficient corporations.

The House had already taken its stand on this long before Cruz’s diatribe trying to use it as an excuse for his vote for TPP that he received some backlash for. Cruz had nothing to do with this result - it’s ridiculous for anyone to claim that he did. And besides that...it isn’t over. Too early for victory.
