Reed, Whitehouse seek end to 'default' gun sales

U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse are calling on gun dealers to stop selling firearms to people who haven't yet passed a complete background check.

The Rhode Island Democrats are joined by 11 other senators in signing a letter to three large retailers that sell firearms and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, asking them to stop "default" sales of guns, which risk selling to people who shouldn't possess guns.

The letter references the recent mass shooting and murders of nine people at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C. The accused gunman had bought the .45 caliber handgun before the full background check uncovered his prior drug arrest and addiction. "After the horror inflicted upon the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, no responsible gun retailer should transfer a gun without first conducting a complete background check," the letter says.

If they get their way, background checks will extend to 7 months. Make no mistake about that.

This is an end around for gun control.

It’s amazing how computers can screen for everything from Security Clearance to Do Not Fly lists, but for some reason cannot do the same for a simple background check.

They want gun sellers to ignore the law?

Who do they think they are? - Barack Obama?

News flash: Dylann Storm Roof would have stolen or conveniently borrowed his father’s guns to do the job had they denied him. Mentally ill liberals hopped up on drugs will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

The NRA did NOT support him in his last reelection bid. Get your facts straight.

Reid, Schumer, and Feinstein want ALL firearms listed under the NFA in order to take a YEAR or longer to have ATF bureaucrats stamp your Form 4.

And they want the Tax Stamp to cost $3500 for each item.

Yet they will claim, with a straight face no less, that they support gun rights.

Did they pass their First Amendment background checks before they spoke out? If not, they should be arrested and jailed.

There is a lot of information out there that the NRA gave dirty harry money for his campaign. Got some references?

Which was the whole point about putting in the three day limit into the NICS law in the first place. NICS was a compromise between no background checks and extended background checks.

What will happen is Obama will use his pen and his phone to direct the NICS system to automatically issue a "deny" instead of a "delay," and let the purchaser contest the deny.

It's amazing to me that in most cases NICS can give a GO-NO GO in minutes, but it still takes several months to issue a tax stamp for an SBR or suppressor. If NICS says GO for a firearms purchase, why isn't that good enough to issue a tax stamp on an NFA item as well?

My references on that occurred on a telcon with NRA wherein I asked why they supported him. The response I got from the caller was, I have no idea as I think that was a mistake.

Meanwhile, the Gun Right Examiner posted this in October 2010:NRA-ILA head Chris Cox attempted a curious evasion when Tom Gresham asked him if the Political Victory Fund had given Harry Reid almost $5,000 for his reelection. Replied Cox: We gave zero to his general election…we did support him for some primary events… The fact remains—they gave Reid $4,950 for the 2010 election cycle. It’s not like the incumbent senator had a strong Democrat primary challenger who stood a chance of unseating him.

My facts are correct, in his last reelection bid does not mean before that which they surely did. They did not support him over his Kaegan vote. I have my fact correct sir.

With so many reprobates in our government, a few are bound to have similar names.
