More prisoners may soon have access to federal subsidies to pay for college under a new Obama administration initiative, ending a 20-year ban on Pell grants for state and federal prisoners.
The move could come as soon as this week. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Attorney General Loretta Lynch are scheduled to visit Goucher College’s Prison Education Partnership at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup on Friday, to make “an important announcement related to federal aid.”
On Monday, Duncan said that restoring Pell eligibility for those potential students is one way his agency hopes to increase college affordability.
“We’ll have more information soon,” Duncan said.

When the corrupt Democratic-controlled Congress passed the unconstitutional Stimulus Program and Obamacare bills, the Democrats essentially gave Obama a blank check to provide funds for anything that he might dream up imo, Obama basically funding projects that win votes for Democrats imo.
The problem is that by giving Obama a blank check, Congress made Obama financially independent of Congress, wrongly defeating the House’s “power of the purse” clause (1.7.2) to kill unpopular federally funded projects like the example in this thread by doing so, this particular project at least partially unconstitutional imo.
Note that if the ill-conceived 17th Amendment had not been ratified, then Obama may not only not have such “personal” federal funding at his disposal, but he may have already been removed from office by this time.
The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and corrupt senators and lawless presidents along with it.
