An "absolutely exquisite" fossil of a snake that had four legs has been discovered by a team of scientists and may help show how snakes made the transition from lizards to serpents.
It is the first known fossil of a four-legged snake, and the team -- led by Dr Dave Martill from the University of Portsmouth -- say that this discovery could help scientists to understand how snakes lost their legs.
Dr Martill said: "It is generally accepted that snakes evolved from lizards at some point in the distant past. What scientists don't know yet is when they evolved, why they evolved, and what type of lizard they evolved from. This fossil answers some very important questions, for example it now seems clear to us that snakes evolved from burrowing lizards, not from marine lizards."

I think they call a legged snake a lizard...
Two legged snakes are native to the Washington D.C.. AREA.
Must be related to James Carvel.
So the Lord God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel. (Genesis 3:1315)
Would that be an alleged legged snake?
Yeah...they are overrun with them...and they come in all colors..
It could be the legs found with the snake were the snake’s supper?
Doesn’t fit the narrative...
Now if we could just figure out how Republicans lost their spines.
Wasn’t Satan turned into a snake when he was driven from Heaven? Maybe we found his body...
Zactly!
As for when the serpent lost his legs, it was just after the temptation in the Garden of Eden.
So it’s the fossil of the Satan Snake who flim flammed Eve.
At the original and typically credulous article there’s only the one picture as copied and posted here. Based on the direction of the ribs it seems to show the front end of the snake’s skeleton (head missing). There’s just a rib cage and little leg bones facing in a way that a small animal’s would if it was being swallowed. I don’t see any scapular bones legs would have been attached to and anatomically speaking, that just won’t work. So your theory it’s prey fossilized within the snake makes more sense to me too.
I found a four legged snake when I was a small kid.
It was a snake that had swallowed a toad.
The toad had scratched through the snake’s sides to where its legs were sticking out.....................
There are legless lizards that are not snakes, though................
