A Marine veteran standing guard outside an Armed Forces Recruiting Center has been told he is no longer welcome and ordered off the property.

Matthew Benack took up a sentry post outside the Center in Jacksonville, Fla., in response to the deadly attack on five members of the U.S. military last week in Chattanooga, Tenn., WNCT reported.

Police said the vet was within his constitutional rights to have a loaded weapon outside the center as long as the unidentified property owner gave permission.

A representative, Grayson Powell, said in a statement:

“We value the sacrifices our armed forces make for this country each day and  hold all branches of the military in the highest esteem. We take the  security of the recruiters in Westwood Village extremely seriously and are in  communications with them about the best way to work together to ensure their  safety and the safety of all of our tenants. Yet having an armed civilian who is  not known to us, the recruiters or the police arrive to stand vigil in a busy  shopping center has the potential to create an unsafe environment, and it is our  responsibility to ensure both our tenants’ and customers’  safety.”

Honestly, I suspect the property owner HAD to make this call or risk losing liability insurance.

Messed up world we live in when our ARMED FORCES are not allowed to be armed.

The insanity persists! That it should have even been necessary for a volunteer to act to protect those who have been betrayed by their Government, into not being allowed to protect themselves, is a sad commentary; but this only adds further insult to injury.

He’s doing his part to help prevent another terrorist attack by muslims... therefore he offends muslims.

it is our responsibility to ensure both our tenants’ and customers’ safety

What a stupid thing for him to say, given the circumstances... and I'm sure no one will call him on it.

He's done exactly nothing to "ensure both our tenants’ and customers’ safety".

America has moved so far into communism with the communists Democrats in control that we will never be free again. No way to overthrow this empire. Only chance we have is 2016 and that is going to be messy.

HAD to make this call or risk losing liability insurance.

Which begs the question of the owners concern for the safety of our
military personnel leasing his office space.

Most likely correct.

[cough] having an armed civilian who is not known to us [cough]

SSA/Military Record/Discharge/VA info

Surely NO ONE in government or military knows who this guy is, right?

He’s a ghost...a black-ops guy that works himself through the shadows of silent military operations. Who gives him his paycheck; Blackwater?

Really?

I suspect they leased the space to the Marines PROVIDED they abide by the "No guns" policy.

Given the KNOWN threats against military recruiting offices, the property owner must evict the recruiters less they be liable for any casualties of shoppers in the area when the next terrorist seeks martyr status.

Those “No Gun” signs are an invitation to a potential mass killer.

I support the right of the property owner to control what happens on his property. There is no other position to take on this. The respect for property rights is paramount.

However, I would refuse to shop at any stores in this shopping center in protest as I think the property owner’s decision is both wrong and cowardly.

The watchman could legally stand guard on a pubic right of way outside the property line of the shopping center, and make his point. Otherwise it’s the property owner’s prerogative to ask him to leave the property ... as much as I disagree with his decision to do so.

Glad to hear that the police will park a cruiser just outside the door of the Recruiting Center.

If he is arrested, who will take his place?

Stand now.

And the basis for making an arrest would be....

The local or state police force could take up the sentry duty, but does that not suppose there is a will from the local municipality or the statehouse to make such a presence known?
