$2800/month To Live In Oakland, CA - Where Cops Say Don't Bother Calling If Your Car Is Stolen

Over the last 5 years, rent costs in the city of Oakland have doubled. At $2,807 per month it more expensive to live in Oakland now than it was in SanFrancisco in 2012, so one would expect the city to have 'cleaned up', and 'be safer'? However, as SFGate reports, the city laid off 80 officers today to help eliminate a $30.5 million budget deficit, prompting the department to announce that officers would no longer be dispatched to take reports for most nonviolent crimes. "With current levels of staffing, we are unable to respond to many lower-priority calls," said Officer Jeff Thomason, a police spokesman.

Instead, Oakland residents now have to file certain crime reports online or visit a police station. Those without a computer can ask that a blank form be mailed to them or pick one up at a library.

Over the past two years, residents have been able to go to oaklandpolice.com and report lost property, theft, vandalism, vehicle burglary and vehicle tampering. In the past, however, people could ask for an officer to come take a report. That will no longer be the case.

By Aug. 2, Oakland police intend to expand the online system - called Coplogic - so residents can report seven other types of crimes, including residential burglaries in which the suspects aren't known.

"There will be no follow-up investigation and the primary purpose for filing the report is for insurance purposes," according to the department.

So don't bother calling the cops for the following crimes...Oakland police now ask residents to report online:

Other crimes that will be reported online starting Aug. 2:

For $2,800 per month (double what it was 5 years ago) perhaps one should expect just a little more law and a lot more order...

Geez how do.middle.class people afford to.live in the Bay Area??? Such high rents for what I suspect are not such great neighborhoods???? I know not all of Oakland is a slum, but with such high averages, makes you wonder how much it costs to live in a nice area.

Wow! $2,800? Just a few years ago I was renting a beautiful Century farmhouse (1836) on 110 acres for $900 a month.

...

It’s a tactic used by scum sucking politicians. If they layoff people you’ll never miss then they’ll never get a tax increase.

It’s been 30 years since I was in California. But even then it was expensive. Anytime I got the chance I’d ask people like waitresses and bartenders how they could afford living there. They were mostly young and the most common answer was they were sharing a tiny location with a lot of other people and splitting the rent. Then I’d ask why the heck they didn’t move someplace where they could afford to live. They’d say something like, “Oh, dude! California is like, awesome! I can’t picture living anyplace else.”

C’mon Ben, you should know how this works in Cali...

Everytime, and I mean EVERYTIME there is a budget “crisis”, the first ones threatened with layoffs are cops, firefighters or gasp, clutch your pearls, teachers...

The teat suckers are NEVER in the line of fire because many of us would totally support their dismissals...

We all know where the money’s going.

Incidentally, isn’t this yet another real world example of why our right to bear arms should never, ever be infringed?

Oakland has the demographics and stratification of South Africa. And we say how that plays out. I wouldn’t live in Oakland any more than I would East St Louis.

I can see that. No money in it for them. However, should you so much as talk mean to the darling that stole or is in the process of stealing your car, they will respond immediately, to put your ass in jail. Now, there is money involved... bail bond, lawyer, etc.

You couldn't pay me enough to visit Oakland let alone live there.

It's Newark West, just a much prettier location.

A few years ago, here in Cincinnati,Ohio, we voted down a tax increase. The City Council immediately closed down all the bathrooms at the city parks and stopped cutting the grass.

They didn’t lay off any of the workers though. The workers were all stationed at the parks to make sure people knew the restrooms were closed and to keep the little tots from peeing in the woods.

If you tried to tell people about East St. Louis they wouldnt believe you..
Even the cops refuse to go to East St. Louis.. WISELY...

Problem is... many areas in the U.S. are equal or as bad..
In every place democrat controlled.. a few Rino areas..

The “evil” is so prominent it’s almost a cartoon..
The worst place.. the absolute worst place.. is Washington D.C...

If it got nuked.. it would be hard to NOT REJOICE..
add Delaware, Rhode Island, Maryland.. parts of Virginia..

In the 30’s the commies bragged they would take the west apart like watch.. they DID...
They actually DID... are doing.. and will continue doing..

If there’s not a revolt.. maybe even IF THERE IS ONE..
Screw the democrats.. it’s REPUBLICANS FAULT this happened..
REPUBLICANS YES..

I see blood... IF nothings done or even if there is something done..
I think america (generally) DOES NOT CARE.. Apathy on a large scale..

You cannot piss a republican off even if you torture him..
