WASHINGTON (AP) The House will take up a bill this week blocking funding for so-called "sanctuary cities" that resist turning over immigrants to federal authorities.
The move follows the shooting death of a woman in San Francisco this month, allegedly by an immigrant with a criminal record and without legal status.
San Francisco authorities had released the man despite a request from federal officials to keep him in custody.
That was in line with a practice by San Francisco and other jurisdictions that have begun refusing to cooperate with federal immigration orders amid concerns over their legality and their impact on immigrant communities.
The bill by Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter of California would block certain federal grants to cities that don't honor federal immigration requests.
A similar proposal has been advanced in the Senate, but it's unclear how far it will go.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities on Monday sent a letter to lawmakers protesting any such legislation. "We believe that decisions related to how law enforcement agencies prioritize their resources, direct their workforce and define the duties of their employees must reside with local government leadership," the letter reads. "This includes defining the role of local police officers in the context of enforcing federal immigration laws."

I think we should go all Abraham Lincoln on these secessionist cities....
But that is just me....
Either that or Sherman’s march, but the residents already seem to be doing this themselves, see baltimore/fergeson....
“WASHINGTON (AP) The House will take up a bill this week blocking funding for so-called “sanctuary cities” that resist turning over immigrants to federal authorities.”
In other words, Congress will increase funding for sanctuary cities not the usual 15% but only 13% and call it a 14.6% cut in funding.
We should keep after our reps. to support this bill. There is no reason for them to exist - except to support drug dealers, terrorists, and other criminals.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
The shooting tragedy aside, noting that both James Madison and Thomas Jefferson had indicated that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate immigration, immigration a 10th Amendment-protected state power issue, the feds have no constitutional authority to appropriate taxes for sanctuary cities.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
In other words, such funding should never have left the states where it would probably be more accessible to sanctuary cities, free from interference from the corrupt feds.
If patriots dont like sanctuary cities then get off of your couches and either work with state lawmakers to make appropriate state laws, or with state and federal lawmakers to appropriately amend the Constitution so that corrupt feds can make vote-winning illegal alien laws.
If they believe so strongly in their stance, let them do it without any Federal Funding at all, for any program their city administers.
Not to worry, a black robed tyrant will stop this in its tracks...
Trump’s already lit a fire under these frauds to do something, as the whole world watches.
Lets hope he’s allowed to finish the job and clean up the District of Corruption. Use a steel high speed grinder.
10 years ago the House passed HR 4473, an enforcement bill that would have increased border security and more importantly it would have stiffened interior enforcement and sped up deportations. Duncan Hunter Sr was one of the sponsors, Sensenbrenner was another.
That was December of 2005. In response the illegal alien advocacy groups organized massive parades of illegal aliens in multiple cities (the first ones flying Mexican flags) and those demonstrations scared the politicians. In 2006 and 2007 they tried to pass amnesty and the citizens melted the switchboard on Capitol Hill. They tried again last year, but when we threw Cantor out they backed off.
They need to be more frightened of the citizens than they are the illegal aliens (and their employers).
If your representative is a weasel like Cantor, throw him out.
...and will the House simply NOT FUND cities that harbor ILLEGALS?
Somehow I doubt that, so this is TOTALLY MEANINGLESS, only designed to prop up pro-Amnesty candidates against Trump.
How about a gaint a$$ fine to go along with breaking fedral law?
