Des Moines Register calls on Trump to drop of out 2016 race
Fox News ^ | July 21, 2015

Iowa's largest newspaper has called on Donald Trump to drop out of the 2016 presidential race amid the furor of the real estate magnate's weekend comments about Sen. John McCain's service during the Vietnam War.

At a conservative summit in Iowa Saturday, Trump, whom several polls had shown to be leading the Republican field, dismissed McCain's reputation as a war hero, saying of the Arizona Republican who was held for five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, "I like people who weren't captured."

In an opinion piece published late Monday, the Register said Trump's comments were "not merely offensive, they were disgraceful. So much so, in fact, that they threaten to derail not just his campaign, but the manner in which we choose our nominees for president."

The paper went on to say that if "[Trump] had not already disqualified himself through his attempts to demonize immigrants as rapists and drug dealers, he certainly did so by questioning [McCain's] war record."(continued)

They were VERY far left when I lived there (can you say "Donald Kaul?") so they're probably in The Nation or even further left territory by now.

Did these idiots call on the Obama to withdraw from the race when the Obama campaign denigrated McCain's war record or call on Al Franken to withdraw when he said McCain spent his time in the war just resting cause he was a POW’ and that he saw nothing heroic about getting captured?

Trump's "asinine comments" were "an insult to everyone who has ever worn the uniform — and to all Americans."

As Mark Steyn said: "And all those hitherto somnolent Republican "leaders" stood on their dignity to insist that there was no place in their party for people who disrespect John McCain... no, make that all POWs... no, make that all veterans.

No. Make that "all Americans". In fact, the entire world. No, Trump has maligned all sentient beings. In fact, if you don't feel so personally insulted by Trump that you will shut your ears to any truth he may speak, then the media hasn't done its job.

Linguistic research has shed new light on the meaning of 'Des Moines.' Turns out it might derive from a 330-year-old practical joke.

In 1673 Father Jacques Marquette met some representatives of the Peoria indian tribe near the mouth of the modern-day Des Moines River.

He asked them the name of the rival tribe that lived further along the banks of the river. The Peoria told him that tribe was called the Moingoana, which became the root for the word 'Moines'.

But researcher Michael McCafferty of Indiana University, while studying the now extinct Miami-Illinois language, discovered that Moingoana, translated literally, meant 's**t faces.' Evidently the Peoria were having a little fun at their rival's expense.

The city of Des Moines has not yet acknowledged the true meaning of its name.

El Cid calls on the Des Moines Register to do something useful and stop pretending to be a newspaper and just turn their business into fertilizer providers — since that is the stuff they shovel onto their customers' doorsteps.

Exactly. And you know what, it’s truly a sad day on the forum to watch FReepers echo the Left regarding Trump.

John McCain has more than earned every insult that could be hurled in his direction.

His absolute disregard for other POWs and men MIA has this FReeper not caring one iota about his feelings.

He’s perfectly willing to denigrate others at will. What goes around comes around.

John has been as powerful a force for evil as he could be over the last 40 years. When the man stoops to arming terrorists, he’s signaled he’s just fine with others being subjected to massive pain, death, and destruction.

POWs in Hanoi aren’t the only people subjected to crewel and unusual punishment in life. When it came others suffering, his care meeter was frozen at absolute zero.

His insulting behavior to other veterans and the MIA families was despicable.

Finally got around to watching the video of Trump.

He looks like he’s making a joke, not seriously maligning that drooling, old, coot.

Tell the cowards who wrote this trash at the Register Rag to show their names and faces.

http://features.desmoinesregister.com/contacts

Here is all that is needed to know about this liberal rag:

“The Register, which broke a 40-year run of backing Democrats in presidential elections by endorsing Mitt Romney in 2012, was the latest voice to pile on Trump for his comments, joining veterans groups, Republican colleagues and President Barack Obama’s spokesman, who defended McCain and called on Trump to apologize.”

And had that same paper called for Obama to drop out in 2008 because of his beliefs?

Haha, the impotent calls for his exit. Laughable. At least Walker was smart enough to not insist Trump get out. Perry now looks even worse than he did before. Trump is making most of the field look like girlie-men, no joke.

McCain would have been washed out of flight school if his father wasn't an Admiral.

When he was captured it was because he was a crapy pilot and it was the third jet that he had crashed.
