The Cuban missile crisis was a year or so before I went into the service and was certainly on everyone’s mind, actually more so than the embryonic Vietnam war were the brunt was falling on “advisors” and Green Berets (usually the same thing).

Who was the knuckle dragging moron who wrote that headline. The flag they are talking about is the same one carried by those who landed at the Bay of Pigs to liberate their country from communism. The flag was the same one that was side by side with Old Glory outside of Santiago de Cuba in 1898. To say it is offensive to freedom loving Americans categorizes as one being ignorant of history, a simpleton.
.... Great idea ..... I would love to see the squirming on Capitol Hill if a large movement rose up and the Administration was forced to address the issue. Of course there's the outside chance that maybe The Donald might raise a stink about this!
I was a Goldwater supporter but I didn’t “hate” JFK, I reserved that emotion for LBJ. Goldwater was amazing in the way he communicated his positions to everybody. Later, I remember him running again for the Senate and walking through the mine yard at shift change. Everyone thought he was great although they wouldn’t vote for him because they followed the dictates of the Union. The workforce was about 80% Mexican American in the underground and they loved the way he didn’t talk down to them like so many other politicians.
