Trump literally said McCain "is a war hero" five times, but always with strings attached. Twice, he was interrupted by Luntz before he could finish his sentence. Once, the statement was preceded by "I believe, perhaps." And the last two times, Trump added "because he was captured."
He also, of course, started all this by saying McCain is "not a war hero."
Experts told us these caveats change the meaning of the sentence entirely.
" ‘He’s a war hero because he was captured’ implies that anybody who is captured is called a war hero, but there’s really nothing special about them," said Kathleen Kendall, who studies political campaign communication at the University of Maryland.

Trump tells the truth....McCain got attention because of his pedigree and his time as a POW.
JUST like some politicians get attention because of their race, sexual orientation, gender, or pedigree.
Trump, of course, had a good head start because his dad was a very successful businessman....

Let me ask you. Why did Trump initially say McCain is “not a hero”? Did he not mean it?
When you say that Trump told “the truth”, are you referring with his statement that McCain is a hero, or the one about his not being a hero?
So, does that make Trump a RINO shill then for saying he was a hero?
He’s a veteran. But just because he is a veteran is not related in anyway to whether or not his actions and policies are good for this country. In fact, I feel free to disagree with veterans, scientists, etc. or at least take what is said with a pinch of salt. No offense, but it’s what I do.
His military service as a prisoner was heroic, his political career was piss poor.
Politifact lies. Politifact includes in its own transcript Trump saying "He is a war hero" without any strings attached. It was later Trump repeated the statement with the attached string of "because he was captured."
Oh.

I'm an Expert on experts. Experts are fools and political hacks, cited to pull a fast one on people. They are outright liars.
The transcript notes he was interrupted after saying McCain is a war hero. Did you see the video?
And do you think that after being insulted by McCain He was in the mood to praise him as a hero?

But Trump didn’t say that to begin with...
There are some people who will agree with Trump whether he says hero or non-hero.
