Sea turtle people are not a protected class, apparently.
It says he was shot and wounded with his own gun I think there is more to the story

“But really, monitoring sea turtle nests should not be a life-threatening experience.”
Trespassing should be, however.

Well duh! He’s a vet and a Marine!
See tagline...
All this could have been avoided if the people staying at the Marriott had deployed their blackout curtains.
Sea turtle nests are protected. The turtles have more rights than we do
There’s the problem ... the Keltic probably misfired.
When McAuliffe got hold of the pistol, he stood up, Pannaman said, and declared, Im going to shoot you with your flare gun.
Sir, Pannaman said, its not a flare gun. Its a real gun.
A flare gun can kill people too, this a hole should be charged with attempted murder and locked away in a tiny cell for many years
Depends on the motive, but I wouldn't say trespassing should generally rises to that level either.
Which one was trespassing?
Never a good idea. Only draw your weapon if you intend to fire it.
A visit here will soon show who has more rights -
Hint, it's not people...
NEVER threaten someone with a gun. Don’t pull it unless you are going to use it. Sounds like the assailant here is just plain Nuts.
I wonder if Rush will pick up on this story?
Worse than that...
“...Pannaman put the gun back in his pocket...”
He seems sorta normal, we spend a week together every year at the US Nationals in Indy.
Of course I never order turtle soup when we eat.

Not just sea turtles. I have a neighbor 8 doors up who has turtles in a hole in his yard....three holes with turtles. He put his home up for sale and the county came in and said....nope you can’t sell with those turtles in the yard. The other thing is he has to pay to have them removed at around 5 grand each but the county is going so slow at giving him permission even to pay and get the turtles out of there. He is so screwed. This has been going on for around 5 months now. Everyday, I walk my yard both front and back and two sides to ensure that no turtles are around. I do have an alligator in my pond in the back yard but that is no problem.
