Republican presidential candidate Donald Trumps criticism Saturday of fellow party member and Arizona Sen. John McCain for being captured during the Vietnam War brought sharp rebuke from others in the GOP field.
He was a war hero because he was captured, Trump said at the Family Leadership Summit, in Ames, Iowa. I like people who werent captured.
Most of the 14 other GOP candidates, including some at the summit, immediately criticized Trumps remarks.
Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry tweeted that McCain is an American hero and that all U.S. prisoners of war deserve our nation's highest debt of gratitude and that Trumps comments are disgraceful.

I also want to comment about Jeb Bush. Whenever there's some blood in the Republican waters, invariably, the press will include some quote about Jeb Bush as he comes up the rear of the news event, and what he says, the way he portrays himself I find to be unnervingly annoying to no end. His quotes are always some effeminate, effete, pusillanimous, craven comments that gives him the look and feel of the catcher in heat. What a putrid, chicken-hearted invertebrate, mouthing his seemingly favorite quote;"Why can't we all get together type there ever was in memory.
What is this, the twentieth such thread?
Okay. Good point. So what should I do when the search doesn’t bring up the article? I’m not looking to monopolize the articles=s posted here. If it a repeat please let the the moderator know and he’ll remove it.
Thank you
You were born in 1946, meaning that you were draftable during the Vietnam War, and this was well before the draft lottery.
How did you weasel out of military service?
And, how dare you criticize those who served, when you never wore the uniform?
.
you quickly run down the list of threads. it’s not hard to do.. you would have seen loads of threads on this subject in about 30 seconds.. just sayin
A least we are getting some truth this time.
Trump did call McCain a War Hero.
Those who have paid attention to McCain over the decades know what a vile man he is. He has been abusive and destructive to veterans groups and the families our Vietnam MIA men.
What I find interesting, is that Trump knows McCain for what he is.
It’s almost as if Trump spent quite a bit of time on this forum.
He’s in tune with a number of key issues, and believing what he says or not, he is at least addressing these issues as if one of us.
What other candidate can we actually say that about?
Any guy that tells it like it is about McCain, is a guy I’m going to respect quite a bit more for having done so.
You're falling for it.
I guess you never criticized John Kerry?
McCain has enjoyed sticking knives into the backs of Conservatives and the Tea Party patriots for years using his POW war hero status as his shield.. Google the POW/MIA families and organizations to see what they have to say about John McCain and his hero status
You should look around on YouTube and watch McCain’s treatment of a woman representing the families of MIA men when MFN for Vietnam was being discussed.
Your defense of the man would evaporate in mere moments.
John McCain drove MFN home for Vietnam against the wishes of veterans groups and the families of MIA men in Vietnam.
He was very crude to them.
Trump nailed him.
BTW: If you know of something Trump did that was illegal related to serving in the military in those years, please tell us what it is.
I believe there was more to McCain’s time as a prisoner of war than he would want us to know. Did he break down and tell his captors everything they wanted? Was he as much a weasel as he is now? I think Trump knows something.
I think Juan McCain started it by calling Trump supporters "crazies"
McCain was tortured, but he did cooperate with the North Vietnamese.
How did Cheney, Mitt, Rove and a host of other patriotic republicans weasel out of it?
Those GOP candidates that choose to jump in and rip another GOP candidate for something he/she said, need to remember that on another day, in the not-too-distant future, they can and probably will say something that the press will jump on, and the tables will be turned on them.
“Any guy that tells it like it is about McCain, is a guy Im going to respect quite a bit more for having done so.”
DO, I could not agree with you more. Trump seems to want us to get past all this smarmy pseudo “niceness” that pervades Washington. “House of Cards” is more realistic than any of us care to admit. Anyway good on Trump for continuing to light fuses on the right areas. He’s tossed a bomb in the GOPe “outhouse” and it’s raining crap and boards! And it’s resonating with a lot of people who may have reservations about the messenger, but they completely understand the message.
For what is worth, Ronald and Nancy loathed John McCain and wanted nothing to do with him, they felt he was a man of no character.
Frank Luntz, who was leading the Q&A session, repeatedly protested, Hes a war hero.
Trump responded, Hes a war hero because he was captured. I like people that werent captured, okay? I hate to tell you. Trump re-iterated, Hes a war hero because he was capture, okay? You can have and I believe perhaps hes a war hero, but right now, he said some very bad things about a lot of people. So, what I said is, John McCain, I disagree with him, that these people arent crazy.
I had a discussion with a guy three to six months ago about Trump. At that time I said I couldn’t support him. I’ve had to come full circle on him.
I’ve been lied to since 1988. The Republican(D) is dead to me.
Trump is getting more street cred with my by the day. Nobody else is stepping it up. Evidently nobody else wants his followers bad enough to compete.
Fine with me. If that’s reality, then I’ll simply have to go for the guy that is the most honest about the issues I care about.
