Florida Redistricting Creates Giant Game of Musical Chairs
Roll Call Politics ^ | July 15, 2015 | Emily Cahn

The music has started in a game of musical chairs in Florida that will have sweeping implications for the state’s political landscape.

Republican Rep. David Jolly will likely announce a bid for Florida’s open Senate seat next week, the first implication from the Florida State Supreme Court last week striking down the state’s congressional map. Jolly’s 13th District is likely to favor a Democratic candidate after the map is redrawn, pushing the one-term Republican to enter the already crowded GOP Senate primary to replace GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, who is forgoing re-election to run for president.

Jolly’s decision presents a major shift in the political dynamics in the state, creating a now four-way Republican Senate primary in a tossup contest. But the game of musical chairs will continue right up until the primary filing deadline.

“The dust is still in the process of settling, but this is one of these things where there’s going to be three or four waves of how this impacts the Senate race, how this impacts the congressional level, and then we have a bunch of state senators and state representatives who want to make a run for Congress,” said one Florida Democratic operative. “It’s going to be something like 100 elections that are brand new.”

When the state Supreme Court nullified the current congressional map, it ordered the redraw of districts 5, 13, 14, 21, 22, 25, 26 and 27. Operatives from both parties expect the 5th and 13th districts to change the most — both of which will have consequences for surrounding districts, which must also be redrawn to create equally populated districts.

Politically, this would be a mixed bag. It would render David Jolly and Gwen Graham facing likely defeat and make Corinne Brown vulnerable to a primary challenge. The majority of the districts would not be affected.

To the south, the race to succeed Patrick Murphy is slow to develop. I keep hoping that Adam Hasner runs, but he’s made no moves to do so yet.

“This was not about getting a better map for Democrats,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz told CQ Roll Call of the ruling last week. “This was about making sure at the end of the day voters can choose their members, not the other way around.”p> Why do I believe her??? NOT

it ordered the redraw of districts 5, 13, 14, 21, 22, 25, 26 and 27.

How many bites at the redistricting apple will they get?

Do people realize that Florida politicians redraw FL-22 just to oust Allen West, and now they get to redraw it again mid-decade?

Wait until you hear the whining and gnashing of teeth when they change the boundaries of the 5th District which has been specifically gerrymandered to keep a black representative elected.

Corrine Brown (D-Jacksonville)

The stupid people of FL ratified a constitutional amendment a few years ago that guaranteed the FL supreme court would draw congressional districts. It is way too easy in FL for left wing groups to send referenda and amendment proposals to voters to decide.

Florida voters passed some stupid ass amendment that forced the Florida leg (R) to draw crappy “fair” lines. They did not intentionally hurt Allen West, they didn’t have a choice. He could have still won, Romney carried his new seat but he ran behind and I belive fraud in St. Lucie country was the difference in that very close race. Fraud also cost Romney the state’s electoral votes.

The problem is not the legislature, the problem now is the GD State Supreme Court of Jackasses that now says the lines aren’t “fair” enough. Their intention is the election of more democrats. Yes Debbie Wasserbitch-Shitz, that’s is the intention of that partisan court of rat bastards, they should build them a new court building, at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sounds like we can come out of it ok though. The word is David Jolly (R) and the people of the Tampa Bay area will be ****ed over with a too-democrat district because there is no way to save that seat, 2 filthy urban rat scumbags from that area and the Republicans disenfranchised. And freshman rat Gwen Graham (competitive seat) will be left with a district she can’t win as her loyal voters will be going to Corrine Brown’s district. So lose one, gain one. Other Republicans could be left more vulnerable, one of the ones in central FL could get partially screwed over with more drooling Obama voters who will “choose” anything with a D next to it’s name as they lack free will.

I don’t know about the south. The 18th (the one West lost) is open and we hope to take it back.

Florida’s special session of the leg to redraw the US House districts has been adjourned. Senate and House disagreed on a new map. The Senate voted to extend the session, the House didn’t.

This could be very bad if the black robbed sh*ts end up drawing the districts themselves.

The proposed map from the House would have cost us 2 seats ( Jolly, Webster) and gained us 1 (Graham) and left the open 18th with the same partisan composition.

Just take a look at the RINO pundits who are attacking Trump and Cruz more viciously than the left.

They take their orders from the Chamber of Commerce. They hate us conservatives. All that matters to them is money.

We need real change not only in the White House but in Congress. Until McConnell and Boehner are removed from the leadership this country WILL become Greece!
