Yep, Boones Farm Strawberry Hill was the "bum's wine" when I was growing up in Iowa. Moved to Illinois my junior year in high school and saw it was the bums wine for Chicago too!
The girls all loved it. They did unspeakable things after consuming a bottle. ;-)

Remembering the “Wine Cooler” craze of the ‘80s. Gallo Winery got a good price for really ordinary (close to unsalable) wine by mixing it with flavored soas and advertising Bartles & Jaymes. Commecial success until the US Govt. raised the alcohol tax from $.17/gal to $1.07/gal in 1991.
Relatively safe drink in moderation unless some evil ass makes it part of a punch with straight spirits. Can you say hammer the anvil and hug the throne?
