The latest Monmouth University Poll of Republican voters nationwide found significant bumps, both in the vote choice question and candidate favorability, for Jeb Bush and Donald Trump since they threw their hats into the rings. Bobby Jindal has made no headway since he entered the race, and Chris Christie may actually be losing ground since his announcement. Despite Trumps surge, the poll also found that many GOP voters are not taking his candidacy seriously.
When Republicans are asked who they would support for the GOP nomination for president, Jeb Bush nominally leads the pack with 15%, followed by Donald Trump at 13%, and Ted Cruz at 9%. The next group of candidates includes Scott Walker (7%) who is formally announcing today Mike Huckabee (7%), Marco Rubio (6%), Ben Carson (6%), and Rand Paul (6%). The rest of the field garners no more than 2% of the vote, including Rick Perry (2%), Chris Christie (2%), Bobby Jindal (2%), Rick Santorum (2%), Carly Fiorina (1%), and John Kasich (1%), Lindsey Graham and George Pataki earn less than a half a percentage point. Jim Gilmore, who expressed his intent to enter the race in early August and is included in the Monmouth University Poll for the first time, has no support. Another 18% of GOP voters say they still are unsure of who they will support for the partys nomination.

As the first debate approaches, these polls become more important. In this one, Bush and Trump are leading with Cruz coming in a surprising third. Perry and Christie may be fading and may be in danger of losing their spot on the stage. In this poll they are deadlocked with Santorum and Jindal for the ninth and tenth spots.
Bush 15%
Trump 13%
Cruz 9%
Walker 7%
Huckabee 7%

where’s Cruz ???
Name ID at this stage trumps all else in these early polls.
No pun intended.
Oh there he is 9% in the top 10..
Onward to the first debate.. twill be a doozy
:)
Totally meaningless, except to promote the "inevitability" of Jeb, IMHO. It's how we get a spinless, mushy GOP-e candidate every time.
They need to seriously stop with the “Bush leads” crap.
No one is buying this.
They have to do this or admit that most people wont vote for an illegal alien enabler...
I bet 99% of those who are pushing Bush are dems.
That’s it. It’s a three way race. Walker and Rubio can drop out now.

I just don’t believe these numbers.
Who would could ever even think of Jeb Bush? I don’t get it. It has to be some sort of media distortion.
That’s a weak way to do a poll.
Yep, not much talk time. I wouldn't doubt the GOPe is trying to cook up to feed Trump with some crazy question. Trump will still tackle it well and pivot to what he wants to say.
We may see Bush get the Hillary type ice cream question.
The headline could be, “Jindal support doubles!” since he had only 1% in some other poll.
Frankly, I don’t believe any of the polls anymore; they’ve lost their credibility.
Look for Jeb to go way down after the first debate. Other candidates are going to get more name recognition and distinguish themselves in the debates.
Wait, how can Cruz be in the top 3? Most people on here tell us he has no chance! But, all of the other polls have him on the low end....
Oh, wait, this is a REPUBLICAN poll. That explains why Cruz is so solid.
