TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) It was perhaps the most daring Israeli military exploit ever a rescue raid in Africa that inspired Hollywood films and became etched in Israeli history.
Nearly four decades later, a first-of-its-kind exhibit showcases the story behind the July 1976 freeing of hostages from a hijacked plane at Entebbe, Uganda. The display includes a copy of the original order to launch the operation and the original combat vest worn by the lone casualty among the Israeli troops: Lt. Col. Yonatan Netanyahu, brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

We learned early in America’s history to never to deal with terrorists. Israel has learned better than us!

Indeed. And the German security and the Olymlic heads were a disgrace.

Sorry, wrong. But still relevant.
Bibi’s brother died in this raid.

When we were tasked to provide famine relief after the Rwanda massacre in 1994 we were actually parked in front of the terminal and the control tower at Entebbe. By that time they had been abandoned and squatters were living there. I didn't make it into the terminal, but I was able to go up into the old control tower and see bullet scars from that raid.

When I first flew a Bell JetRanger into Entebbe in 1980, the El Al airliner was still sitting there. A portion of the underside of the left wing skin was missing, causing the wingtip to droop a bit. The old control tower was closed and pockmarked with bullet holes.
It was a strange feeling, walking around all that history.
