Surprise, Surprise: Lois Lerner Had Friends in Wisconsin
National Review ^ | 7-10-15 | David French

Posted on 07/10/2015 3:42:28 PM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

It turns out that the vast left-wing conspiracy isn’t all that vast. From the Wall Street Journal:

Wisconsin’s campaign to investigate conservative tax-exempt groups has always seemed like an echo of the IRS’s scrutiny of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status. It turns out that may be more than a coincidence. Former IRS tax-exempt director Lois Lerner ran the agency’s policy on conservative groups. Kevin Kennedy runs the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) that helped prosecutors with their secret John Doe investigation of conservative groups after the 2011 and 2012 recall elections of Governor Scott Walker and state senators. Emails we’ve seen show that between 2011 and 2013 the two were in contact on multiple occasions, sharing articles on topics including greater donor disclosure and Wisconsin’s recall elections.

The emails indicate the two were also personal friends who met for dinner and kept in professional touch.

“Are you available for the 25th?” Ms. Lerner wrote in January 2012. “If so, perhaps we could work two nights in a row.”

This timing is significant because those were the years when the IRS increased its harassment of conservative groups and Wisconsin prosecutors gathered information that would lead to the John Doe probe that officially opened in September 2012. Ms. Lerner’s lawyer declined comment.

Mr. Kennedy said via email that “Ms. Lerner is a professional friend who I have known for more than 20 years” but declined further comment.

The Journal has been doing an outstanding job peeling the corrupt onion of Wisconsin’s astonishingly abusive “John Doe” investigations, and — given the similar objectives of the John Doe investigations and the IRS Tea Party targeting — these latest revelations are hardly shocking.

Both the IRS and the Wisconsin investigators were dead-set on reading confidential donor lists and determining exactly how conservative organizations communicate. The IRS sought its information through lawless and discriminatory document demands, while Wisconsin officials used the blunt instrument of predawn raids and electronic snooping that would make the NSA blush. Months ago, on Megyn Kelly’s show I compared Wisconsin’s prosecutors to the IRS with battering rams. That comparison may have been more apt than I imagined.

Wisconsin’s “John Doe” overreach is a miniature “experiment” in what Obama and the left have in store for us.
It is a test, a prototype.

It reminds me of some opening lines in Romancing The Stone: “There is one more thing that is true in the Old West. Even bastards have brothers”.

I am reminded of Mark Twain’s prayer for war. “Oh, God, help me make orphans of the children of my enemy. Help me turn their wives into widows...”. I think we are just about there.

It is time for Gov. Walker to set up a new, independent Commission to look into the WIsc. DA and his toadies re the “John Doe” warrants program.

I’ll bet they will uncover a massive illegal Democrat Party operation. Track the money! Track the interlocking contacts. Subpoena all emails before they and their hard-drives end up in Lake Superior.

Bring the corrupt Democrat bastards down, now!

Can’t say I’m surprised that Walker would team up with her...his reaction to the John Doe subpoenas has otherwise been unexplainable.

Lois Lerner is an unprosecuted felon.

As long as she remains unprosecuted, I don't want to hear Word One from the Feds about how "someone broke federal law".

Their vaunted "legal system" is nothing more than political prosecutions of unfortunates who don't have the clout to get a pass from the Feds and their gunthugs.

Walker teamed up with Lois Lerner? You couldn’t be more wrong. Walker had NOTHING to do with John Doe. The John Doe investigation was an attempt to find Walker engaged in wrong doing, and they never could find a thing on him. Instead, they just harrassed a lot of innocent people and cost a lot of people a lot of money.

The only thing Walker had to do with John Doe is that he asked them to look into whether everything was on the up and up over some VA fund his office was managing. In that case they found one guy who was embezzling. He was fired and prosecuted. That was it. But, John Doe took on a life of its own after that with a lot of people caught in the cross hairs for no reason, other than they were conservatives.
