The New York Times informed HarperCollins this week that it will not include Sen. Ted Cruzs new biography on its forthcoming bestsellers list, despite the fact that the book has sold more copies in its first week than all but two of the Times bestselling titles, the On Media blog has learned.
This week, HarperCollins, the books publisher, sent a letter to The New York Times inquiring about Cruzs omission from the list, sources with knowledge of the situation said. The Times responded by telling HarperCollins that the book did not meet their criteria for inclusion.

Why would the criteria include anything other than number of books sold?
To: E. Pluribus Unum
The term “bestselling book” is merely yet another social construct

Well, guess I’m gonna have to buy it on my Kindle. Always glad to help out a fellow who loves his country. And FU, NYTimes!

Annual best sellers are always the Bible and Koran. They are always excluded. I suspect it also depends on where books are sold. There was a big fus a while back because sales at Walmart were not counted but sales at Target were counted... different type of customer.

Where’s Hillary’s? It went to paperback despite being a disaster for the publishing company.

NYT even had Ann Coulter’s book on the list. They must really fear Ted Cruz. Another reason to buy more copies of his book. Yesterday at Barnes & Nobel, I noticed they has a large display of best-sellers that included “Adios American” and Cruz’s book.

The excuse would probably be that there are bulk or subsidized sales included in the total. Or that they pretend to believe this. Surely it's not possible that ordinary individuals, as opposed to one big check from a political campaign (the Koch brothers!), are buying those books.
In theory, they care about such thingsunless it's a Lefty's book.

Mind you, they're not claiming this, because they don't really have the evidence to make that claim. 'Cuz it's no doubt false. That would be the only excuse recognized by publishing standards. But they need to explain they're looking into that and prove it, or list the darn book. Can't have it both ways.
They stalled in a similar way on Rush's books. Heh. Lotta good that did them.

This follows Mark Steyn’s masterful, scary parallel to the 1933 Germany...hey, looks like we’re having a metaphorical book burning of Ted’s book. How Orwellian can we get?
