Is Your Church Abetting Sanctuary Nation?
Townhall.com ^ | July 8, 2015 | Michelle Malkin

The random, heartless murder of a young tourist on San Francisco's Pier 14 by a five-time illegal alien deportee who benefited from the "progressive" city's sanctuary policy has law-abiding Americans, law enforcement officials and political opportunists of all stripes up in arms.

But for decades, feckless government leaders ignored the pleas of families who suffered the bloody consequences of open borders.

For every Kate Steinle who died at the hands of an illegal alien sanctuary beneficiary, there is a Tony, Michael and Matthew Bologna in San Francisco.

A Jamiel Shaw (age 17) or Xinran Ji (age 24) in Los Angeles.

A Martin Kudlis (age 3) in Denver.

An Iofemi Hightower, Dashon Harvey, Terrance Aeriel, or Natasha Aeriel in Newark.

A Zina Linnik (age 12) in Tacoma.

A Vanessa Pham (age 19) in Fairfax County, Va.

As I've reported time and again, liberal "sanctuary" programs in these metropolitan areas have protected, harbored and enabled criminal illegal aliens who disappeared into the deportation abyss. Both Democrats and Republicans, goaded by Big Government and Big Business interests, collaborated to turn America into a collective sanctuary nation. Non-enforcement is the rule, deportation evasion is the game, and the country is a safe haven -- for law-breakers from around the world.

Yet, even as born-again tough-on-borders grandstanders now race in front of cameras to condemn these dangerous policies, churches across the country are brazenly thumbing their noses at our immigration laws. And political phonies are doing nothing to stop them.

In Northeast Portland, Ore., the Augustana Lutheran Church is shielding illegal alien Francisco Aguirre-Velasquez after he committed drunk driving and drug crimes and violated deportation rules.

In Tucson, Ariz., illegal alien Daniel Neyoy Ruiz took open, public refuge at Southside Presbyterian Church and then First Christian Church to avoid deportation. Fellow illegal alien Rosa Robles Loreto has been living at First Christian for nearly a year.

In Austin, Texas, First Unitarian Universalist church is harboring illegal alien Sulma Franco after the feds denied her deportation appeal.

In Denver, illegal alien Arturo Armando Hernandez Garcia has taken up long-term residence at First Unitarian Society of Denver church.

In Chicago, illegal alien Elvira Arellano settled at the United Methodist Church of Adalberto for a year before finally being ejected back to Mexico. Last year, the serial law-breaker somehow returned to the Windy City to protest her status "in the shadows."

The Catholic Church has been at the forefront of the 1960s-era sanctuary movement, with top officials openly promoting immigration anarchy and lawlessness among their flock in the name of "humanity" and "compassion."

As I've long noted, it's one thing to show compassion to legal immigrants, legitimate refugees and asylees, and those abused and mistreated by smugglers. It's quite another to conspire against an orderly immigration and entrance system that imposes common-sense limits, eligibility requirements, criminal background checks, medical screening and a commitment to assimilation. Catholic groups have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to building shelters for illegal aliens from Central America and way stations in southern Mexico.

The unholy alliance between church leaders and the open-borders lobby extends from the Vatican to Rev. Jim Wallis' Faith in Public Life (FPL) network, the Los Angeles-based Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) and the George Soros-tied Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ). It's a web of nearly 100 interfaith committees, campus agitators and "workers centers" steeped in the organizing tactics of Saul Alinsky on behalf of millions of illegal aliens filling the pews and coffers of their abettors.

Capitol Hill's abdication of its duties to protect and defend our borders is bad enough. But if people of faith choose to sit silently as a "new sanctuary movement" of tax-exempt houses of worship defiantly and recklessly undermines our immigration laws, our national sovereignty doesn't have a prayer.

Yes.

I am a Catholic.

And my Church’s positions and policies on illegal immigration are appalling and indefensible.

Well, that’s interesting. My minister told us Sundays that the GM law was the ‘law of the land’ now and must be respected.

The "leaders" of this country, many of them, should be on trial for treason. Force them to explain why they've allowed this to go on for so long. Start with Dubya and his "new America" where spanish can be heard on the streets of Miami, etc.

All the "leaders" from both parties have turned a blind eye towards this problem in the name of power. They've abrogated their responsibilities as citizens and as legislators.

I left my church when they went left.

Churches, unions, The Ministry Of Propaganda, both political parties and businesses have all gotten on board The Cheap Labor Express.
The citizens have few allies in this fight to save our country.

How about ‘sanctuary cities’ for bank robbers?

Liberals and criminals have lock hands in this horror - making our country a hellhole...

How soon until liberal elites like the Clintons want a sanctuary city for pedophiles? Their friend from Orgy Island wants a place to ‘run his business’.... Why not excuse that crime? Why only the crime of breaking into our country?

Sanctuary cites are breaking the law... they need to be fined and their mayors arrested.

As I figured, the Portland Lutheran church is ELCA. Big surprise.

How about ‘Sanctuary Cities’ for people who don’t want to pay taxes?

Why is one group of illegals favored favored over other groups of illegals? Bank robbers, tax cheats and rapists have dreams too...

Or folks who like to steal from Churches? They would like a city to run to....

I’m close to that.

I’m getting so annoyed these days with my Church and with Pope Che, I’m getting to the point where I don’t even care if their tax exempt status is taken away.

Does anyone know if the So Baptist Conv. supports sanctuary cities? I mean KNOW, not assume. There are several different Baptist conventions, so one doesn’t speak for all.

Please, no offense intended, because I have God-loving Catholics both in my family and among close friends, but . . .

We are seeing the success of the Marxist priests who instituted the stealth “social justice” heresy in the Catholic church of South America in past decades.

It has spread. It thrives in the Vatican today. Witness the Pope’s political remarks in South America this week in favor of international climate change legislation and wealth redistribution, which are in fact the same thing.

No offense taken.

It is no secret that the Church has many Lefties and Liberals in it. Look no further than the Kennedy family, Pelosi, Biden, etc.

And Pope Che is as far Left as they come.

As for me, I really do try to separate politics from religion. When I attend Mass, I fully expect the service to be fully devoted to Scripture and the spiritual and free of political ideology.

If I want to hear about politics, I go to a political meeting. There are many conservative Catholics out there along with me. And yes we are getting fed up with Church’s stances in such issues as globull warming and illegal immigration. I suppose many liberal Catholics might counter by saying they don’t agree with the Church’s positions on abortion and same sex marriage. Perhaps a sensible compromise would be for the Church to concentrate exclusively as possible on religious matters and Scripture and try to avoid politics, ideology, science, and economics altogether. As Jesus once said, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, render unto God what is God’s” Some good advice for the Church too I would suppose.

Excellent points.

In recent years, I’ve re-examined many points regarding church, particularly looking with open mind and fresh perspective at what Jesus taught and how the early church, those who walked beside Him, lived.

It has strengthened my faith and also opened my mind to what is really important spiritually.

The sermon on the mount is often twisted these days, as are other of Jesus’ teachings, as Marxists try to use his precepts to inject government policy into our personal responsibility to care for the poor. Jesus never asked for government to spread the goodies; he always urged his followers, individually or collectively, to share what they had with those in need.

Moreover, the word “church” never referred to a building or a corporation or a heirarchy. It always referred to a collection of believers, and membership in that nebulous group is determined by the Lord himself.

I want my name written in his book. My allegiance is to him, not to men. For that reason, I’ll listen to sermons and homilies all day long, but those words and ideas always get checked against what the Savior said and are often rejected.

Yes and your points are well taken as well.

I think it would be good advice for all Christian churches to stick as closely to the Gospels and the Word as possible and not get so caught up in temporal, ideological, economic, and political matters.

But I will not fall into Satan’s trap and leave the Church. There may be men in leadership positions who are wrong, but the Church is still the Church of Jesus Christ, and I will not be driven out by any sort of foolish or evil behavior of mere men.

Same here. I could leave the Church and find another one. But more than likely I would find some imperfections in those churches as well. Nothing in life is perfect and that applies to our religious institutions. As for me, I will continue to go to my Church, stay put. Keep everything in perspective and close to Scripture. Some have called me a “Cafeteria Catholic” because I don’t go along with every single thing the Church says. Fine with me. I don’t care. Sticks and stones. If I could ever be given the privilege of defining myself, I would say that I am a Bible believing Christian who happens to be a Catholic.
