On Chicagos lakefront bike path, across the lawns of the museum campus and in the stands of Soldier Field, Grateful Dead fans toasted to the bands farewell tour this weekend by lighting up.
A pungent fog of marijuana smoke wafted throughout the arena packed with 70,000 Deadheads over three straight nights of concerts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
But almost none of those fans needed to fear any repercussions for breaking the citys ordinances prohibiting public weed consumption. Chicago Police officers made only one arrest for possession of cannabis on Friday and wrote only two possession of cannabis tickets Sunday in connection with the concerts, according to the police department.

There is no longer any such thing as law.
Can’t arrest a bunch of people that can afford lawyers.
Is Chicago one of those places which have banned smoking in most or not all public places?
If so, wouldn’t smoking marijuana, cigarettes, or anything, violate those sorts of laws?
Or is marijuana special and exempt from such laws?
You don’t want that crew in you jail.
Chicago cops don’t arrest murderers, rapists or corrupt politicians, why should they spend even a scintilla of time bothering pot smokers?
Most jurisdictions have a one free pass for small MJ possession. Get a ticket or get arrested and do a class and maybe some community service and the first offense is dismissed. Why waste the time in a situation like that with thousands of scoffaws? In Chicago, the time is better spent pursuing violent gang members shooting each other and bystanders. After all, black lives matter, don’t they?
Public marijuana smoke is exempt because it contributes to the further degeneration of the country.
Actually, I can attest personally that nothing much has changed in that regard. In about 1979 I saw Nugent at the Aragon Ball (aka Brawl) Room and the Chi. Police weren't arresting anyone for smoking pot outside waiting in lines to get in. I literally saw a guy blow pot smoke right into one of the helmeted cops face and he didn't even look at him, instead looking right past him for something or someone of greater interest. The paddy wagon was right there, but I didn't see anyone put inside it. Great concert, Ted was incredible, could hardly see him through the haze though!
No, black lives do not matter in Chicago. Why? Because the people killing them are other blacks, so it is not politically useful for the left and their allies in the media.
(I knew that you knew that, just wanted to state it outright.)
My cottage neighbours went to all three of these concerts. They can not only afford a lawyer, the wife is one! I don’t know who the band is, but just going by their name, I wouldn’t even want to know.
Not pungent. Sickly sweet.
I saw Emerson Lake and Palmer at Soldier Field in the 70s. We had to park almost a mile away downwind. All we had to do was follow our noses. Fantastic concert.
The modern form of pot makes a dead skunk smell like roses.
I was at that concert. What an amazing coincidence.
I had a friend there
LOL!
I’ll miss “sickly sweet” if they’ve dropped it from the media vocabulary.
Potheads NEVER hang with drunks because the two psychologies are diametrically opposed to one another
COPS have learned that smokers are a more jovial crowd as opposed to the anxiety of a political crowd.
Dead Heads may remind some of dirty hippies, but the only dirty hippies I ever met were the ones (myself included) out on the field on the second or third day of a concert .... ain't NONE of us been home yet and I can tell you ... WE COULDN'T WAIT TO GET INTO A SHOWER and ball the girl of our dreams we had just met
“I was at that concert. What an amazing coincidence.”
Cool! Pretty sure my hearings not what it should be from listening to Ted and Free For All, live and with Koss headphones.
Mine were Senheisers and I’m pretty sure my 10% hearing loss had something to do with Uncle Ted. Or Blue Oyster Cult...
Best,
L
