Chicago celebrates 4th of July weekend with 9 dead, 47 wounded

Yes, it was another dismal holiday in the Windy City, with gang violence running wild. 47 wounded and nine dead, including a seven year old boy whose father – a multiple conviction criminal with recent illegal gun charges – was probably the actual target. Sure, those numbers sound like bad news, (and they are) but the actual title of the Washington Post article covering the story includes the caveat… but better than last year.

Chicago was yet again riddled with a flurry of shootings this Fourth of July weekend, with at least 47 wounded and nine killed, according to multiple media reports.

The numbers were down from last year’s holiday weekend after police increased their presence by nearly a third — 2014 saw over 80 shootings with 16 fatalities. Police also seized over 80 illegal guns over the holiday, averaging around one per hour, DNA Info reported.

Some 3,400 illegal guns have been confiscated so far this year, according to the city’s police department.

I think that it involves the goofy way that these guys hold their guns. And another reason behind the low dead/wounded ratio is that Chicago really does have a very good medical care system, and the emergency room at Stroger probably has the best gunshot patching crew this side of Syria. Good thing everyone involved is on Obamacare now.

The usual Chicago Weekend Crime Report, a regular Monday feature on the Michael Berry Show in Houston, ran into an unusual second segment today. He was able to cover all the murders fairly quickly, but the recitation of the assorted non-fatal gunshot incidents required the remainder of the first segment, and all of a second segment as well.

Even though it was a more calm July 4 weekend in Chicago this year than last, it was still pretty disorderly nonetheless.

I remember some years ago the new mayor of Chicago, a sniveling, whiny excuse for a human being named Rahm Emanuel, was comically reduced to begging the Chicago gangbangers to avoid committing drive-by shootings in order to reduce the number of collateral casualties. I wonder how that initiative is working for Mr. Emanuel these days.
