Ted Cruz: Some In GOP Are For 'Amnesty' Because It's Cheap Labor

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas said the "divisive" issue of what to do about the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants who live in the United States distracts from the problem of securing the borders.
"My view is first, we secure the borders and solve the problem of illegal immigration. And then I think we can have a conversation about what to do about the people who remain here," the Republican presidential candidate said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday.
When pressed on the issue of the 11 million people already here he said, "President Obama and the Democrats focus on that issue because the question you're asking is the most divisive partisan question in this entire debate. And I don't believe President Obama wants to solve this."
Cruz also accused members of his own party of being supportive of "amnesty" or giving undocumented immigrants who arrived illegally a way to stay in the United States.
"A lot of Republicans in the Washington cartel, they're all for amnesty too because from the perspective of the chamber of commerce and Wall Street, it's cheap labor," he said.

It won’t be as cheap once it comes out of the shadows, though.

Actually the labor is cheaper when they are illegal.

Like a real estate developer! They love the cheap labor.

Where is Cruz on amnesty? All I have heard him say is secure the border then we’ll figure it out. Not bashing him at all. I was just wondering if he has mentioned his exact position.

If the country clubbers want cheap labor than they should be willing to pay the higher taxes. After all they are working with the donks to “get things done”.

Yes, the elites in GOP, the top 1% who are business owners, the chamber of commerce, etc all favor cheap labor. They care less about the middle class. They are ecstatic with this endless supply of cheap labor flooding across the Rio Grande.

On deportations he holds off because he says first secure the border. This is smart because it avoids letting his opposition get a sound bite that he will deport them all and then they will say that’s impossible. I am confident he will take the Eisenhower approach.
On amnesty and illegals, he is 100% opposed. He favors only ‘legal’ immigration.

I know a lot of FReepers are going to bring up Cruz’s support for legal immigration and H1-B visas, and will demand that Cruz answer these issues as well.
I did too, when I used to criticize Cruz.
Then I realized that it’s smart to focus on border security first and stopping the problem at the source. Focusing on border security takes the issue out of the Left. Like Cruz says, the Left WANTS people to focus on the illegals here, so they can run their sob stories.

Most in the GOPe want voters who will vote for big and corrupt government. Cheap labor isn’t the priority.

That's why they have to keep new illegals coming by not securing the border.

You don’t understand Ted’s approach to H1B.
And the topic has been addressed countless times on FR so it’s not a sincere question from you, rather it’s just another heckling jibe on your part to get undeserved attention.
Here’s the reason we need it:
