Washington (CNN)American public opinion on the Confederate flag remains about where it was 15 years ago, with most describing the flag as a symbol of Southern pride more than one of racism, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. And questions about how far to go to remove references to the Confederacy from public life prompt broad racial divides.
The poll shows that 57% of Americans see the flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than as a symbol of racism, about the same as in 2000 when 59% said they viewed it as a symbol of pride. Opinions of the flag are sharply divided by race, and among whites, views are split by education.Washington (CNN)American public opinion on the Confederate flag remains about where it was 15 years ago, with most describing the flag as a symbol of Southern pride more than one of racism, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. It doesn’t matter how it’s viewed. It’s protected by free speech/free expression.
You know - those things that protect Jihadists calling for overthrow of the US, college professors pushing for a ban on the US Constitution and gross pedophiles.
ALL Polls are merely gossip.. opinion of a targeted group..
That is if the group is not “one thing” displayed as something else..
And a sinister ploy at disinformation...
You know they are.. really propaganda..
I loved seeing Old Glory fly in our town this week. And had seen quite a few ‘stars and bars’ as well. Woo hoo!
Being a Yankee (Illinois), I’ve never owned one. Guess I’ll have to get one now.
But I also ordered one for display alongside the Gadsen Flag.
Neither racist nor ignorant opportunists have space in my universe.
its a symbol of rebels. Kids who want to be rebels embrace this flag which includes black
I personally never liked the Confederate flag, and I always found Southern culture a little creepy. Maybe it was memories of DELIVERANCE & literature classes — “Southern Gothic,” “decadent South,” etc. But I never really cared about the flag either way. It is not anymore offensive than the rainbow flag, which according to logic should also be banned. But then, among liberals, logic has also been banned.
The way I see it, people having a confederate flag are no different than idiots with Che’ or peace sign T-shirts. Displaying it is no different than having an Obama bumper sticker on your Prius. All the “controversial” BS is in people’s empty heads.
LOL! I’ve always considered myself as being a Yankee but I feel the same way.
Go figure. :)
The inside was full of every kind of rebel flag item you could imagine.
>> historically, the flag represents rebellion from federal tyranny
As it does today.
As a statistician, I view a poll as the search for the truth whether I like it or not. However to many polls are corrupted by the pollster. It is unethical, immoral, and improper to bias a poll with ones preconceived notions. Too many times I have seen polls that are designed to promote an agenda, or to have a predetermined result. What is really sad is that many pollsters know better, but they only care about the money.
POLLS are indeed GOSSIP... adding NOTHING.. of value..
Do you vote according to what others vote? -OR-
Do you vote according to personal ideals?...
If you vote according to Polls.. YOU HAVE NO IDEALS...
You’re a DRONE... that watches and are effected by POLLS..
Whatever you are......... you are...
I'm actually half-kidding (but those words were spoken to me a few times). Most of my favorite customers were from down South...I had open invitations for employment from quite a few of them. Every time a blizzard rolls around in January, I kind of wish I had taken them up on it...lol.
My great grandfather fought under this flag , that’s good enough for me , to honor it as well . For the rest of my life . It takes nothing away from my love and affection for Old Glory . I love both , equally . I fly both , without any conflict of mind whatsoever .
I vote according to my values, for example I could never vote for any pro choice candidate. I value human life.
That’s funny. We southerners dispise portrayals like “Deliverance” - but we are happy they have served a purpose to keep Yankees out.
