Shes a former Nation of Islam member turned passionate defender of the Confederate flag and her views on race, slavery and the South are guaranteed to stir up controversy.
Karen Cooper a black woman who belongs to a pro-Confederate flag group in Virginia told a documentary on the rebel flag that she believes it stands for far more than the Souths history of slave ownership, and views it as a symbol of rebellion against an overreaching federal government.
In an interview for the documentary Battle Flag she said I actually think that [the flag] represents freedom
Im not advocating slavery or think that it was right.

Good for her.
until she is labeled a clown in black face in 10...9..8.......
Somebody else for Georgie Takai to trash?
Exactly what I said earlier this week:the Confederate flag symbolizes rebellion against an overbearing federal government.
And the elitists want all symbols of rebellion stamped out!
bfl
She gets it, but NASCAR does not.
Leftists need to be mollycoddled and need the fedgov to wipe the spittle from their chins. They can't compete in ideas unless it's about deviancy or riding along on the backs of working men, erasing history in a Stalinesque purge or supporting unenlightened dirt scratchers or felons killing decent people in our streets. As long as they get a vote, that's really all that matters to them.
Growing up black in 1950s America, I was afraid of that flag, but over half a century of living, learning, and growing, has turned that fear into into something more like a feeling of endearment and kinship.
I realize now that I can’t (and shouldn’t) deny that flag. For one, at least one of my ancestors wore the uniform of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Secondly, every one of my ancestors going back to that era, was from the South.
On this day (and every other day of the year) Old Glory flies proudly outside my front door, but it’s just one of many flags that I salute.
That woman is much too rational for today’s world.
You’re much too rational for today’s world too, Windy!
Have a great Independence Day!!! :-)
I certainly wish more black men and women like you spoke up.
I am sick of seeing history and truth denied.
On a much grander scale, consider the cross. Once a symbol of shame and degradation, it has become a symbol of glory and salvation.
I think the same (on a much much smaller scale of course—civic pride is no match for the work of God) can be said for the Confederate flag.
i like her shirt, anyboby know where to buy them?
It's why I fled California, and now make my home in Texas! Out here, I'm just normal people :-)
I guess a person has to be of a certain age to even know enough history to make sense of it all. When I was a kid in school, we were taught that the war between the states was amongst fellow Americans who had strong disagreements about states' rights.
Today's kids are taught that the American Revolution was fought by poor farmers who were tricked into it by a bunch of rich, white, slaveholders.
Never mind what they're being taught about the Civil War. It's even worse, I'm sure.
>>The battle flag of The Army of Northern Virginia is a symbol of resistance to federal authority<<
Ding-ding, we have a winner. THAT is the response and proper defense of the Confederate Flag. It stands for rebellion, not racism.
Heh, I understand. I live up in the mountains of CO, away from the madding crowds, where the level of insanity is kept down to a dull roar.
What an idiot. The Confederate States would not have given her freedom as she would be considered property. Freedom in the Confederacy was for white men to do business and own slaves.
I wish America had more good people such as yourself.
